Earthbound if you can find it. Street Fighter II? Strike Gunner STG is a pretty cool over the top shooter. You can have two player and some combo stuff too. Another one of my favorite shooters is U.N. Squadron. You can buy planes and stuff!

breathe of fire series (only if you are patient, the games are slow, literally, and you need to find a good deal on them, but great games)

Lufia 2 (best graphics for an RPG for snes, and the gameplay was amazing, replay value is way up there too)

Lufia 2 for sure. Super Mario Kart. All FFs. SoM, Seiken Densetsus 2+3 if you can find English versions. Um, BOF (I only liked the first). Contra 3...
 
Donkey Kong Country series (1 & 2 at least), Killer Instinct, Tetris Attack (Absolute MUST HAVE. Has nothing to do with Tetris), Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (Finest platformer ever created, better than GBA version), Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Illusion of Gaia, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Mario Kart, Super Gameboy + GB games, Megaman X (At least 2 & 3), etc.

Yeah, and you're damn right about Metroid being one of the obvious. 🙂

Earthbound is a work of game design genius. Don't let the graphics fool you, they really add to the ambiance of everything.

On a related note, if anybody has an Earthbound cartrage that they are looking to get rid of PM me.
