that little gadget that allows you to switch between one system box to another using the same monitor connected to both... what is that called agian?

This is usually called a "KVM" (Keyboard-Video-Monitor) switch.

Also, please cut your sig down (or get a rig link). It's eight times longer than your post, giving you a very poor SNR.
