ok...i got a ecs k7s5a motherboard. its the 3rd one i have ever had. I got this one as a newegg refurb. I installed a xp1800+ and get nothing....not even a beep. then shut it off, and try to restart it, but get no power, just the fan turns 1/4 turn.

i put a duron 600 cpu...actually 2 of em and they both boot but i get CMOS memory size error or something. can repeatedly reboot if i wish, havent tried to hook hd, cd, floppy yet.

i put the xp back in, it gets power...but no boot screen. after i turn it off the fans turn 1/4 turn again and have to reset cmos again. I do not get any beeps when any of this happens.

bottom line the duron works, the xp doesnt...i dont know for sure the duron works in windows but it does boot to bios screen.

do i have a bad CPU or MOBO? maybe my xp isnt supported by the ECS board?

hope I didnt just waste yer time.

Check out this thread in the Hot Deals forum about Newegg.com refurbs: Link .. My opinion - The board is bad, it was bad before it was shipped to you ... RMA it back to newegg ASAP before your warranty through them runs out!

well.....good news and bad news.
just borrowed an athlon xp1600+.....it booted into the bios....
now is my xp 1800+ dead?
I tried the 1800+ in another Mobo. Another ecs with the same case...similar hardware...and same thing....wouldnt boot.
