Arrrrgh. I bought a n64->usb adapter on ebay and the bastard doesn't work. It detects the N64 controller correctly but it reads that the N64 analog is having a seizure of some kind when it isn't moving at all. Then I have to google around to find this is a common problem Link - I'm not doing any insanely hard soldering work, thanks.

Also in the readme file it says something like "The N64 controller is very complex, the adapter may not work. Consider this before buying the product" - FFFFUUUUuuuuUUUUUU. Maybe you should have not released the product if it doesn't work and the N64 controller is too complex for you?

God dammit. I wish my Bro didn't step on my old one.

Moral of the story: Stay away from anything "Sumoto" brand.

also wasn't sure where to post this exactly. Figured it was more geared toward PC gamers. Don't suppose anyone else has one of these adapters and miraculously got it working somehow?

Adaptoids were rarer than gold dust, at least when I was trying to find one. It's not surprising to hear from someone who is frustrated with a mass produced alternative.

Yeah there's not a lot of choices out there these days when it comes to N64 usb adapters. Not like there was 10 years ago. I had a choice of about 3 different ones and ended up making the wrong choice apparently :x

I've been looking for one. I also need a new controller. What would you guys recommend so I don't have the same experience?

I was looking at the ones on ebay a little while ago but didn't end up buying because I would be buying them from overseas, and they looked kinda cheap.

This seems like a good one, was thinking about getting it but I don 't have two N64 controllers so I ending up finding the crappy one I got one ebay. Only paid like $11 total for mine but still pisses me off that it doesn't work.

I see a lot of those on eBay for around $25-30 CDN. There are some from Hong Kong for ~$17 though, why can they sell me the same thing for so cheap? That's including shipping.

Cause it's hong kong I guess :p - I bought a brand new, nintendo brand Wiimote/Nunchuck on ebay for $14.99. Shipping was like $6.00.

Though I've got ripped from Hong Kong before, too. You can't order from Playasia?

Yeah I play N64 emulated games with a Logitech PS2 style controller and it works fine. I just have to switch back and forth between two profiles depending on the game.

Yeah that's a lot of fun I bet. Or you could just use an actual N64 controller. How do you have it all bound to a PS2 controller out of curiosity. A lot of the buttons would have to be in a different area all-together it seems.

N64 is only good for N64 emulation though :p - I use PS2 controller for everything else.

I have my 360 controller mapped as:

360 n64
Left analog stick = Analog stick
Right stick = C buttons
AB buttons = AB
D-pad = D-pad
Left trigger = Z button
L R buttons = L R buttons
Start = Start
Select = Rapid Fire (depending on emulator)

And I take it you are playing games that you legally own? (lol...had to throw that in...cause...uhh...I do...yeah, thats it...I own 200 n64 games...umm...in my closet...ummm....I gotta go....)

Also worth mentioning that I have a PS2/n64 USB adapter I got at WalMart on clearance for $5!!! Works perfectly with both controllers...Ive just moved to the 360 controller as it was just easier to use and used a lot more.

So you can't move and press the c buttons at the same time? How do you play goldeneye?

My FPS profile uses the 4 face buttons as the c buttons and L2-R2 as A and B. My profile for other games uses the face buttons for A, B, C-left, C-down, and uses L2-R2 for C-up and C-right. Other than that it's pretty much the same as an N64 controller. Works great.
