N64. Never played it until last night.

Went to hang by a friends house and he dusted off the N64.

We had a blast with goldeneye, mario kart, mario 64 and wave race 64.

These games were great and it makes me wonder why PS1 dominated it.

I'm going to head out to funcoland tonight or maybe tomorrow to pick one up. I'm buying all the games I listed.

I'm bring a couple hundred, so what else should I get?

I  GoldenEye 😀

As for N64 suggestions, pick up the Zelda games, you won't regret it! 🙂

Killer Instinct Gold
Zelda Majoras mask
Zelda Ocarina of time
Perfect Dark

Edit: forgot about Mario Party 1 - 3
Super Smash Bros

starfox. 1080. super smash bros. mortal kombat.

load up on all these awesome titles. N64 was the best (until MS released xbox 😉)

I have XBOX and my friend does as well. That's the reason why we dug out the N64.
Games aren't about the graphics. They're about fun.

Zim, I think I'm picking up a gamecube and will get Zelda there. I may get the cartridges.

B/C you just listed every good game for the console. 😉

Seriously though, the N64 was good hardware using dated media. PSOne offered much cheaper titles that benefitted from the additional storage. N64 games were often late, expensive, and couldn't provide all the cut-scene extras and gameplay length people wanted at the time. Nintendo also had a bunch of exclusivity rights and charged developers extreme royalties; couple that with their early "Rated G" limitations on games and you were left with a mass exodus of games going to the PSOne. I owned an N64 and it was definitely the console of choice for multiplayer gaming in the frat house, but I often found myself commandeering other people's playstations for games like FF, MGS, RE, GameDay, etc.

Chiz

Btw, you should be able to walk out with pretty much any game released on the N64 with a few hundred bucks.

Don't forget to get the expansion pack, which added more memory. Some of those games take advatage of it and some even require it.

Thanks so far.
I'm leaving now, and I guess that I'll wait until tomorrow to make my decision based on the replies received here.
I may look in the buy and sell pick up an N64 and bunch of games from someone privately first and fill in the gaps at funcoland.
EBAY may be an option but that's my last choice.

Episode 1 Racer was one of those titles IIRC 🙂

I'll consider it. I'd like to have it tomorrow though.
Internet purchase last resort for me. Been burned a couple of times elsewhere. Not that I think you would, but I'm just cautious.

Cool!
It was an absolute gorgeous day and in my travels got it.
Last hour or two I'm breezing though Mario Kart.
Finished 50 and 100 cc and will start on 150 maybe tomorrow.

Just a simple say that the main simple reason PS1 dominated N64 was due to the HUGE selection of games the PS1 had as opposed to the VERY small selection that the N64 had.

I personally loved the Turok series. Turok 1 was my favorite N64 game and the reason I still keep the system. It has a different controller setup than Goldeneye/Perfect Dark, but it works better for the type of game that it is.

On a side note, I liked Diddy Kong racing much more than Mario Kart. Much more rounded game IMO.

Stay away from Cruisin USA and MACE
