Unfortunately it appears we are going to be trading CPU speed for extra iGPU (12 to 16 Gen 8 EUs vs. 4 Gen 7 EUs) on these boards compared to Bay Trail-D (J1800, J1900, J2900)
Yes, it's unfortunate that the CPU part of Atom is actually getting slightly weaker.

Braswell does have a hybrid form of H.265 decode though that involves the iGPU. Not sure how this works out in practice vs. a processor with a dedicated H.265 decode?
And I was under the impression that it was a dedicated block for H.265 decode. That's also disappointing to find out it's hybrid.

Would one of these boards make a good HTPC board, with a look for H.265 content? I guess, without HDMI 2.0, and 4K support, that would be pretty worthless anyways. Maybe the Skylake NUC would be the one to get, and hold off on Braswell?

Celeron J1800 (not J1900) and Pentium J2900 offer the fastest single-thread speed you'll find for sub-10W integrated CPU. Stock up while you can, because we're transitioning to the notebook Celeron N series from desktop J series, plus up to 2.4 times slower base frequency speed.

Celeron N3000: 1.04 GHz
Celeron N3050: 1.60 GHz
Celeron N3150: 1.60 GHz
Celeron J1800: 2.41 GHz
Celeron J1900: 2.00 GHz
Pentium J2900: 2.41 GHZ

Celeron J1800 is a Pentium J2900, technically, but with two cores missing (or disabled). So, I would say ASRock D1800M and D1800B-ITX are the ones to pick up and store right now (I already bought 3).

The port selection on those boards is pretty weak. I mean, it is 2015, I don't want COM, LPT ports anywhere near a motherboard.
