n00b question...

I've got 2 gigs of DDR2-800 RAM in my PC right now, but I've got 512mb of DDR2-533 lying around... if I put that in there, will is slow down my 800 RAM?

what cpu do you have? Unless its a 1333FSB C2D/Q it wont matter, it will simply get your memory running at 1:1. If you have an AM2 then it will slow your system down and may make a difference..
Go for it.

It appears that you would be adding a single 512 module to a pair of 1gb modules. On some MOBOs this is a bad idea. Do you "need" more memory?

No, I definitely do not "need" more memory... I just figured if it was free RAM lying around, why not? But from the sound of it (I'm running an AM2 system - Athlon 64 3200+), it will only hinder performance. I'll not bother with it - thanks for the help 🙂 !

Hey, I am with you man. I ABSOLUTELY HATE to have a piece of usable hardware laying around I can't make use of. I guess being broke all the time does that.
