ya, that's right, when it comes to overclocking I am a NOOB... I haven't done much in a long time, but now I have a new rig and am re-learning everything...

I have the following:

Biostar M7NCG 400 matx nForce2 mobo
AMD XP2500+ MOBILE barton cpu (currently OC'd to 166*12 2ghz)
512mb PC2700 generic ram.

The problem is that the ram that I have sucks. I think it's getting a bit flakey. It works fine on a non-oc'd system, but everything went to hell the other day when I tried to bump up the voltage and speed on my CPU to about 215mhz fsb... Now I have to run everything at 166fsb, and the mobo detects the ram as DDR400 sometimes when it shouldn't, then won't post... strange stuff...

SO what I'm trying to do is pick some decent ram to overclock with. Obviously PC3200, but beyond that I'm not familiar with the good brands/models/speeds to be looking at. I saw Newegg has some Crucial 512mb PC3200 sticks that a couple people have overclocked to around 220mhz fsb.

In the end I'd like 2 sticks of 512mb that will run pas the 200mhz mark if possible, and I want to run them dual-channel. I want to OC the CPU quite a bit more, but the ram is holding me back.

thanks for any advice and suggestions.

Best rams to overclock with: Corsair XMS, OCZ Gold, Kingston HyperX, Mushkin PC3500.

Go with a brand name like myocardia mentioned and stay away from the generic stuff if you want to push it as far as you can.

Thanks guys. I'm leaning towards the Corsair XMS PC3200 512mb, or maybe the Mushkin PC3500 which was suggested by a friend. Pricey, but oh well...

I've heard great things about this memory. If you are wanting to spend good money on some great OC ram. Read this article about it...
