N00b question about car radio install

I have an aftermarket HU in my 96 Maxima. If I want to install a new HU do I still need to buy the install kits and harness say at Walmart or Target? Can I just reuse everything from my old radio??
 
You will need an adapter harness at least, unless you are willing to cut off the stock ones and you know what all the wires do. You may not need a kit if the stock unit was a DIN sized one.
