I just picked up an asus A8N VM CSM and a amd ath 64 3500 chip. i had the guy put the chip in at the store for me to make sure it was right and i didnt break it. i got everything wired to were i thought it was correct and plugged it in. the green light on the mobo turns on, but that is it. can anyone tell me where to start or just i just pull everything out and start all over?
in the middle of this i think i have it figured out: the power supply for the case is 20, board is 24. book for the board says i can use the 20 and the 4, but they wont both fit into the plug on the board. should the switch on the back of the power supply be at 115v or 230? PLESE HELP

First off, they both won't fit into the plug on the board because that IS NOT WHERE THAT 4 pin plug goes! If you force it in, its likely bye bye motherboard .... and anything else it decides to take a long with it. That 4 pin plug goes into another spot. There should be a connector on that board close to the cpu socket where you can plug that line in. Its the 12V line to feed the CPU.

Plug the 20 pin plug into the 24 pin spot, leaving the last 4 pins open. You will likely have to look at your motherboard manual to see which side of the plug your open pins should be on. Then plug the 4 pin plug into its spot over by the CPU socket.

Second, unless you have 220 volt as your standard electrical service, you will want your PSU set to 115V. I don't know where you live so I don't know what is "standard" in your part of the world. For those of us who live in the USA, 115/120 volts is standard household current.
