I jumped on the $10 Orange Box deal Steam has going on this weekend. Use to play CS a lot, and was decent at one point, but never really that good. After a bit of playing it looks like TF2 will be a game I play for a long time, and hopefully get decent at. Looking to start up a clan, or join an existing one where the people don't have a lot of experience either. In CS I typically played on random servers with random people, had a clan for a short while but fell apart due to nobody wanting to really play together.

If anyone's interested let me know, not looking for a hardcore thing here, but it would be nice to play maybe 3-4 times a week with the same crew of dudes and get better with them. Doubt I'd ever improve much playing with new people every time.

zerocool84, I know there has been a thread about this, but I wanted to cater to the people who haven't played much. Maybe start out as a n00b clan, and hopefully become kick ass.

When you looking to get a mouse allies? Also we need a name, I think there is a AT clan already so we need something maybe more original lol.

Being a noob in a game can be unpleasant sometimes, but in TF2 I found plenty of servers where people were gracious about it, and I'm sure you will too. And since there's no friendly fire damage, you can play almost anywhere while learning if you keep a low profile and make an effort to respond to the team situation.

Medic is a great class to start with, because the basics of it are easy, and most of the time even the attempt to heal the team is appreciated. Regardless of what classes you try out though, I recommend watching some of the very excellent youtube tutorials that have been posted. You can find them for all classes.

Here's an excellent fun tutorial for medic that has some good general advice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvPeT-1QDPk

I think Arena servers are also a decent place for trying out new classes. It's great to be adept at at least a few classes eventually so you can adjust to the current tactical needs of your team.

frodolives, I'm not too worried about finding a server to learn on, but my problem with CS was I never played regularly with a clan. So technically, while my shooting skills went up, I never learned how to work well as a team. And I didn't get a whole lot better because of it. I'd do pretty decent on 1v1 Iceworld maps, but get owned in Dust. If I can hop into TF2 with a clan already up, it should end up making me a better player. I watch my GF play LOTR:eek:, I know it's a totally different type of game. But they've been playing as a clan for about a year now. When they do raids they know what to expect from each other and work together much better than a bunch of random people. Who knows, maybe if this clan works out we can be at the international video game show competing for a trophy in a few years.

I just like the idea of playing with people I'll get to know and improving together as a clan. I'm even pondering ordering a Astro A40 heatset lol, expensive but is awesome. I want to have a clan that stick together and becomes well know and famous, and infamous :D

Yeah, playing with a team is often the best way to enjoy a game. My remarks were just general. Although I still recommend following that tutorial link!

I forgot to thank you for the link, I watched it, and think I will try each class out for maybe a good 3-4 days until I find the one that suites me best. In CS it was nothing more than a different skin, so I never had to think about what character to be. Medic looks good, Scout looks fun. I suppose I don't have to lock myself into 1 character lol.

Also, this.

I think there are alot of people who will help perfect strangers. If they know they are helping fellow AT'ers, I don't think you will have any problems at all integrating the Noobs with the Pros. Keith Talent basically ushered me into this game, and now I smack him around like he's my biatch, a year later.......:D

pretty damn fun, played nothing but Arena tonight. Unlike CS I couldn't choose which team to join. is CTF different? Will sort of defeat the purpose of a clan if there's only a chance we'll actually be playing on the same side.

The Spy sucks, dude as the Spy kept killing the hell out of me. This is a world different than CS, I'm not used to classes and levels. It makes for a more interesting game, but I don't know if I'll be able to adjust. Scout is pretty fun, the Flamethrower dude is nice. I suck balls with the Medic, am slightly better with the heavy machine gunner and sniper. The Spy seems to have a lot to offer once you learn it. Scout feels the most like I'm back in CS. Fast and responsive, not very strong. I musta got knifed by the invisable spy dude 20 times. It ended up saying Nemesis next to his name and showing boxing gloves over his head. I think because he was owning me so hard.

people on the server I was on were mostly nice and helpful in answering my questions. I need to try out other modes of play and get my weapons leveled up. I see this game eating up a whole bunch of my time.

God Bless Steam and their $10 sale this weekend. I've wanted TF2 for awhile but am a cheap bastard. I shoulda just ponied up the $20 when it came out, and I would be good at it already :( lol

Not sure if it matters, but I've got 8 months left on a 50 slot vent server that isn't used anymore if you want to utilize that instead of the incredibly sub-par ingame com. I used to play TF2 pretty hardcore, was mediocre at best, but I took a long (to this day) break when the Scout update was released because I couldn't tolerate playing arena vs. 15 scouts. Maybe I can put EVE down long enough to get back into it, but I've been playing DotA on WC3 nonstop for the last week. =O

I think it's cute that you noobs are all in one clan. This way it is much easier to shuffle you around to balance the server in fight night.

>:) bring it on.

n00b today, tomorrow we will own the world. Everyone is a n00b at one point. The way that piece of shit using the spy kept owning me last night. Well, I'll just say that won't be happening for much longer. You say bring it on now, but you will be one of the ones running in fear when you hear the name of our clan uttered, or typed. Uhhh, ummm never mind the clan doesn't even have a name yet. When it does, trust me you'll know and fear us, prepare to be afraid, very afraid!

/rant

question, people are listing their steam ID, but when I try to add them as a friend it's saying they don't exist. How do I use the ID to find them? and again BE AFRAID, VERY AFRAID!

/rant again

Game type: Payload
Maps: Badwater, Goldrush

Know it. Love it. :)

And OP I would find a "good" server where the players are of high caliber. Your skills will improve faster that way.

i guess this is what you want to read if you're trying to get into competitive tf2. You probably won't understand it all right now. But it'll help you pick a main class. I don't really have the time to practice all the time so I just play for fun. http://forums.steampowered.com...howthread.php?t=792794

Instead of a competitive clan you should start a community/guild type of deal where everyone's just playing for fun. You can still do scrims/matches.

I'm not doing something right, I don't think I'm supposed to add people with their actual steam ID directly to my friends list on there. I noticed I can change my name to whatever, even if somebody else uses it. I'm biggiewsk if anyone knows how to add people.

M0oG0oGaiPan - I want to mostly play for fun, but if we got good enough I wouldn't object to going to a lan event somewhere and repping AT. For now I'd be good with a couple night games a week and see what happens from there.
