My last overclocked system was an opteron 939 system with DDR memory. Now I have an AM2 3800+ with 2GB DDR2 PC-5300 ram. When I run CPUZ it says the mem is running at 300mhz and the CPU bus speed is 200mhz. Does this means I can bump the bus speed on the CPU to 300mhz before I have to worry about the ram being overclocked? If I raise the bus speed, will the mem speed go up automatically? How do I change the Bus to memory speed ratio?

Thanks in advance for the help.

He's got an AM2, not LGA775..

OP, you can try that but first you should lower the HTT multi to x3 from the default x5. AM2 isn't too different from Socket 939 since the core is the same. It's just the memory controller is new so you just have to pay attention to the dividers and timings. If you raise the HT (the bus speed) from 200 to 300, that means you're raising the entire CPU-memory subsystem by 50%, meaning your CPU @2.7GHz (9x300) and your memory @600MHz (DDR2-1200). If the board is programmed right, it'll attempt to boot with some funky memory timings (like 5-6-6 or 5-7-7). I would say it's very unlikely. You will have to change the memory dividers.

There should be at least 3~4 dividers: DDR2-400 (CPU/9), DDR2-533 (CPU/7), DDR2-667 (CPU/6), DDR2-800 (CPU/5). Try the lowest one first to see how well your CPU does. That'll put your memory at DDR2-600.
