NEW YORK--New York State Comptroller Alan Hevesi is in hot water for making remarks about "putting a bullet between the president's eyes" a day after promising that fellow democrats would ?murder? republicans.

According to WNBC, Hevesi, a democrat, was speaking at the Queens College commencement at the time of the remarks, along with U.S. Senator Charles ?Chuck? Schumer.

A member of the audience, blogging at Free Republic, reports that Hevesi, referring to Schumer, said the Senator would "put a bullet between the President's eyes if he could get away with it."

There were a fair number of gasps? It slightly seemed that he caught himself and then said, "Well, he's a really tough guy" or something along those lines -- trying to put the remark in context.

Shortly after Thursday's event, Hevesi issued an apology, claiming that ?he was merely trying to convey that Sen. Charles Schumer has strength and courage to stand up to the president.?

Schumer did not immediately condemn Hevesi's remarks.

Hevesi?s comments came only a day after he was nominated to run for a second term at the state democratic convention Wednesday in Buffalo. In accepting the nomination he said ?We?re going to murder the Republicans.?

His republican opponent, J. Christopher Callaghan, has blasted Hevesi?s remarks.

"Threats against the president are no joke and this incident raises real concerns about Alan Hevesi's fitness to hold public office, Callaghan said during his acceptance speech at the Republican state convention on Long Island.

As Comptroller, Hevesi is the state?s chief fiscal officer, charged with auditing government operations, managing the State's assets and overseeing the fiscal affairs of local governments, including New York City.

Looks like the Democrats are becoming more violent in their despair after losing election after election.

Must be the peace loving aspect of the party showing its true colors again.

Killing republicans? Murdering a president?

Sounds a lot like the purges of Stalin's Russia and scapegoating and murdering of Jews by Hitlers Nazi's.

Godwin's law means you lose!

In all seriousness, assuming this is true (I don't regard one extreme right-wing blog, repeating a story from another extreme right-wing blog, repeating a claim by a member thereof, as a credible source), it sounds like Mr. Hevesi got carried away and said something dumb. I hardly see that as indicative of a trend amoung the Democratic party. If we started attributing every absurd Bushism to the Republican party as a whole, we could only conclude every Republican was either insane or moronic or both.

You would think something like this would make the actual news, and not reports of someone from FreeRepublic. Don't you think its a bit strange that the only source is from blog?

But hey, we all know one person from a party represents every member of the party, which is why everymember of the Republican party is like Strom Thurmond and is pushing for segregation again.

Just tack it onto the lady who wanted to physically punch Bush in the face.

What the hell are you talking about?

For what it's worth, I would love to punch President Bush in the face, though I would never do it. That is one man who would benefit from a good ass-kicking.

That's kind of funny actually, if the news is true he can bench 200 and run 3 miles in 21 minutes, and probably give many of these liberal e-thugs a good ass-kicking.

Senator Landrieu from Louisiana said she would punch the president in the face if he criticized the relief effort.

You may well be right. God knows he takes enough time off of work to work out.

Boy, he and 2000 pound leg press Pat Robertson would make a great superhero pair, now wouldn't they!

Well, seeing as how the context was "Murdering the Republicans" in ELECTIONS, I doubt Mr. Hevesi was actually threatening the president.

Probably just a knee-jerk right-wing blog taking things out of context yet again.

200 LBS?? I always knew he was a girlyman.

Wasn't there a Republican who advocated the killing of Clinton a few years ago? How did you feel about that?

Well the way he made them his bitches it was understandable. Hell they are still smarting from it.

I think he meant those remarks to be taken figuratively, not literally. I don't think the official has any intention of taking a gun and putting a bullet in Bush's head and I'm guessing he doesn't really want Democrat officials to actually murder their Republican opponents. I'm guessing the bullet in Bush's head bit was probably about killing Bush's political influence. It would be nice to see what he actually said instead a small bit of it. Assuming it was just a figure of speech, it was in poor taste but it's still a figure of speech for pete's sake.

Ahhh, more freeper muckraking. Why should we believe it?

Where to you find these little 'Gems' - do you personally know all the creapy-crawley blogers that ooze their vile rumors.
Are you on their instant messanger 'secret decoder-ring' group of quasi coherent zombie spamers?

Say anything nasty, hell it might have happened, but if it didn't, no sweat it was simply 'Mis-spoken'.

You have learned the Nixon assault political message well.

He and the rest of his ilk need all the self stroking they can get because the world has woken up to their destruction.

Zendari still trying to polish turds I see...

If it's legit, which I kinda doubt, I can see how the context is a little iffy. Freudian slip perhaps? Stupid remarks know no political barrier, and you're a fool if you think otherwise.

Me, I'd rather worry about actual thoughts coming from important people, thoughts that can be verified. For instance...

"I didn't join the International Criminal Court because I don't want to put our troops in the hands of prosecutors from other nations. Look, if somebody has done some wrong in our military, we'll take care of it. We got plenty of capability of dealing with justice."

Uh oh, is that more Freud I smell? How about something more... unsettling...

"God loves you, and I love you. And you can count on both of us as a powerful message that people who wonder about their future can hear."

You've been fed steaming-pile after steaming-pile from W for the last 6 years and you're getting this indignant over something that isn't even a story yet? LOL, at least you're good for a laugh!

I don't know why people don't start assassinating the bad presidents... I mean, Kennedy and Lincoln? Geez...

Having Cheny as President doesn't suit my fancy though...
