Thank you Edward Snowden! We'd have never known how big and wide spread this was. Now shut down the NSA spying program and let Edward come home, free of charges.

This.

Surprised they didnt have it tossed because of national security interests.
I suspect they will simply ignore it if the appeal doesn't succeed. Still good news though.

Exactly. "Oh, so what we are doing is illegal. Okay. Who is going to enforce the laws we are breaking?"

At least, this will provide a good platform for our next candidates to lie about in 2016!

I really dont see how you guys think snowden is such a hero. He doesnt know shit. His data is pretty much what any tech geek knows already. IMO he is a traitor to his country whether the NSA is right or wrong in their searches.

Yep. We already know they're perfectly willing to lie to Congress under oath, and we also know that Eric Holder certainly isn't going to prosecute anyone in the NSA for that.

outing your government for doing illegal things to its citizens is the anti-thesis of traitorous activity unless you believe in serving the gov instead of the country

While I wouldn't call him a traitor, I certainly wouldn't hail him as a hero. The data he most likely has could easily compromise the lives of people without his knowledge. Releasing such information into the public, especially without knowing the extent of it, could reveal a lot more than intended.

Also, if he viewed himself as such a patriot to the American people, why flee? If he believes what he did was so right and that it had to happen, why not own up to it.

why flee? you do know there is a warrant for his arrest?

is he a hero? no. but he is close. he is releasing info proving the Government is breaking the law.

I consider him hero more then a badguy who should be in jail.

Don't worry next appeal they will and it will get tossed.
Even though IMO the "national security interests" in the context they use it should be invalid if not unconstitutional.

Guantanamo?

Bradley manning spent how long in lockup again before trial? 1100+ days??

why the hell would anyone stay in the US if they thought the gov would come after them

you are always not far from being deemed an enemy combatant and tossed in a hole

And Nelson Mandela spent how long in prison for his ideals? You want to have ideals, good, but don't go claiming the hero card when you run from the consequences.

Nelson Mandela was on the run and in hiding when he was arrested.

If you're going to try and use an analogy; pick a better one.

Cry more, fascist.

The existing power structure will always call it's opponent traitors. George Washington is a hero to Americans, what do you think King George called him?

Why flee? Are you serious? He knew full well that the government spying machine would seek to silence him, and would go to great lengths to do so. Obviously, was absolutely correct and did the right thing.

If not for Snowden, we would not have known any of this stuff.

I don't recall him calling himself a hero, got a soundbite/quote to go with that?

look at all the hapless drone shitbags running around helping the NSA violate all our rights because they are sheeple, and one actually outed them, and SMARTLY ran the fuck away.

and your response is to call him a pussy? really?

you think mandela wanted to/enjoyed his time in prison? is that your argument? if so its weak

the gov is still actively smearing him because a) he outed them doing serious wrongdoing and b) made them look STUPID by eluding them

the people calling him a traitor and criminal and want him locked up are the actual traitors and criminals, as a judge just proved.
