Do you think the avivo video converter will work with an nvidia card? i guess i'll try it tonight after work. Let me know if it does or if you likes it or not. :)

Yes it does. I have a 7800GT and it worked fine.
I converted an XViD (350MB/45 min TV rip) to DVD @ 4500kbps (just to see if it worked). Output files was ~1.15GB.
Took just under 8 minutes to convert, AMD64 3200+ @ 2650MHz. Quite nice.

The output file was fairly poor, but then it was a re-encode of a lossy video, so I'm not too suprised/bothered/worried by that.

Also has a very easy to use interface, just a few clicks and you're set.

Got it from here
(Thanks to kurt454)

ATIs release is not suppose to work with any card but the x1000s cards, or so Anad's review says.

However, there is an unofficial release already that is suppose to work with all cards. A friend tested it this morning and it seemed to work.

EDIT: was posting mine as Lonyo was posting. That is the copy I was told is working on all cards as well

Not bad...

Uses DirectShow and any of your existing decoders to convert it. So if you can play it, you can convert it with this tool. I found that out when the ffdshow OSD was superimposed upon my converted file. Audio didn't work though. :(

Download the archive, copy it to a folder (I did mine to G:\Avivo).
Run setup.bat and then the .exe should work fine. But you have to run setup.bat before the .exe will work.

When I run the AVIVOXCode.exe in the setup directory it buffer overruns (Windows DEP dialog). Run the exe from "C:\Program files\ATI Technologies".

Anyone else get a Windows error when trying to run it?
This is with XP SP1 and the rig in sig.
Even after running setup.bat and running from c:\program files\ati technologies, program crashes right after clicking the .exe

i am converting avi to dvd as we speak. (90 minutes)
Encoding on a 9800 pro with 3200xp taking about 50 minutes (output was 2.7gig)

Please ignore this post mostly as i have explained in one of the below posts that i was using post processing and warp sharpen in FFDSHOW. which frankley is not a great idea when encoding.

Sorry to keep posting but i want to report on some problems with ffdshow. do NOT warp sharp... Man i was coding family guy and it firstly took a long time, then i saw that Stuies head was Not shaped like the rugby ball it should be but kind of octangular. so do not apply that. I am seeing what will happen at the moment with no post processing in the codec at all. and it finished an episode(175mb) in 3.30 minutes. WOW> the greatest software leap in my book. Also i can see the fuss about the H.264 codec now.

when y'all use the avivo converter to make dvd files out of avi's, what do you use to burn them? Does it play in all dvd players?
I have always used Nero Recode2, and have never really had problems. but some methods of burning allows only my philips dvd player to play anything, while the others plays in my house cannot play them (a daewoo and an apex). (my philips was advertised as being able to play anything thrown at it, and that has held up to be true).

like, what software do you use to burn, what options, etc etc..

I get this message when I run setup.bat:
LoadLibrary("C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\atixcode.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found.
And then the program doesn't start.

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\atixcode.dll" gives me that message, so please tell what can I do.
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\atidvcr.dll" works just fine.

This is exactly what I get. Anyone have any idea of what to do?

Does this offer any advantage over using AutoGK?

Edit: Wow, seems to be pretty fast.

fast... on a geforce3 :p

Kudos to ATi for releasing a CPU only version (or to the hackers as it may be!)

this thing is great! there are quality issues, and sometimes the program randomly closes. but other than those, its awesome.

well i tried Avivo with my 512MB HIS X1800XT http://i4memory.com/showthread.php?t=1997 CPU based still

as to quality of output files they excellent as it depends on the quality of the source files you are working with ;) but i guess it's early and will improve in future releases - well i hope
