N.C. House Passes Lottery Bill

I'm for it as long as the proceeds go to our schools and they don't cut the regular school budget.

It's better our money stay in NC than go to VA or SC.

I was going to post this earlier... but I figured I'd get bitched at for not putting it in Politics & News. I never go in that forum.

WRAL link.

Exactly!!! My dad lives in Burlington, NC. He drives about an hour to Danville, VA every couple of weeks or so to buy lottery tickets.

Most pols will figure out a way to ensure that the education funding level do not change. Lottery money may be "earmarked" for education. Now they can divert general revenue funds for other pet projects.

Look at any other state where the educational golden carrot was used.
See what the educational budget percentage was before and afterward a lottery was implimented that promised the moon.

No offense to your dad, but that isn't exactly a sound investment strategy.

Well, he hit for $1,500 last week

The lottery is retarded. It was cool the first year-two we had it, now no one gives a damn. The Mega Millions brought some more interest.

I'm waiting for TX to vote to have legalized gambling here. It's only a matter of time before we have casinos sprouting up here.

Still doesn't make it sound. What's his total return?

If it's okay for adults to play the lottery, it should be okay for them to gamble too.

Damned if I know. Him and my mom like to drive to danville just for the ride and to go shopping. It's their little "sunday drive" sorta thing. Sometimes he buys tickets when he's there, sometimes he doesn't.

But who am I to argue with what he does with his money. He makes six figures, his house is paid for, his cars are paid for and he just does whatever he wants.

Can't really fault him.
