Anyone try MythTv, Windows version, and resolve the "MythTV could not connect to the database" message setting it up thru the frontend?

I've searched and find the message is fairly common, but all situations and resolutions are for linux and I've found the answers to be fairly cryptic and confusing to me.

I tried Mythbuntu once. I got that message and totally couldn't figure it out.

Tried XBMC?

It can't, it uses a back end which is either myth tv, Windows media center or next pvr. You can use next pvr natively too, but I always go back to using media center eventually.

When I tried myth tv on Windows I got that problem too, I believe to use it you need to also install a database for it to use, (I guess because that's how it runs on Linux) but I didn't have the patience to figure it out sorry.

I tried Windows media center but it wouldn't recognize my pvr card, a hauppauge 1600 iirc, and I tried next pvr but while it would recognize channels with scanning, it wouldn't show video (blank screen.) It would also crash when clicking on anything to do with selecting or identifying the decoder used. I could hit their forums but meh, I'll give xbmc a shot first.

/edit: I get it now, xmbc is just a front end with plugins to work with these programs. I'm on to MediaPortal, which installs and sets up mysql, exept mysql isn't starting. *sigh*

After not getting the other programs to work (and not having the time/desire to research solutions), I installed the hauppauge tv program after digging around for the required cd needed to run the install package. Works great, should have started here, lol.
