Mystic River

I bought the DVD at FYE yesterday ($7 MIR) and right after it was over I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. Some confusing parts but now that I've thought about it more, I think it was a really good movie. I'd say it's a tie between ROTK and Mystic River for best of 2003 for me 🙂

i havent seen it yet, my friend loves it and bought the 3 disk set, were going to watch it this weekend sometime, sounds like a really good movie i think

Uhh, let's see...

'I wasn't sure if I liked it or not' to 'tie between ROTK and Mystic River for best of 2003'!

That's a nice leap. 😉

It was crime against nature. The story was dragged out, the acting was terrible, the suspense was bad and the ending was very incomplete. Clint Eastwood should stick to making home movies or just STFU and not make such atrocities.

It was one of those movies that sort of grew on me the more I thought about it. I watched it right after I watched The Shawshank Redemption (best movie ever) so that was probably why I wasn't sure about it at first. I liked it, but didn't think it was as great. After reading some of the posts on IMDB and thinking about it more, the confusing parts started to come together. I still don't know what Sean's wife had to do with anything, but that's probably it 😉

I look forward to renting it. IMO the novel, by Dennis Lehane, is one of the best works of crime fiction in recent years, but I never saw the film. Anyone who hasn't seen the film, I highly recommend picking up a copy of the book - it's just brilliant.

I agree. It didn't break any ground in terms of story or plot twists, but it injected the genre with a much needed dose of emotion and excellent character development.

I'm watching it tomorrow night so when I saw 'Sean's wife' I stopped reading. 😉

I enjoyed his prior books, but Mystic River was a quantum leap for Lehane IMO - I think it's stellar. I was a little put off by its successor, the very strange Shutter Island, but it should make for an interesting movie.

I don't know if you're a Michael Connelly guy (I am), but his City of Bones is another recent great, emotionally charged whodunit. DV says check it out.

I liked it. wouldn't mind to get it on dvd.

If you like special features at all, get the 3 disc set. The one disc is absolutely barebones, it doesn't even have a theatrical trailer with it.

Already read it. Pretty good, I remember I thought the ending was a little abrupt or forced or something. I've recently started reading James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux novels. Some of the only books I've ever read that don't over-do southern Louisiana culture.
