Mystery Printer HELP?

Working on a friends comp and the problem is that every time it boots the hardware wizard comes up and reads found new printer!(win xp home)
it had a Lexmark printer on it at one time. I have removed uninstalled any printer software or drivers tried disableing lpt printer port and still finds new hardware. Have hooked up and configured an epson printer. And It still finds new Hardware at boot.
Has anybody Exsperienced this?
Any help would be appreciated!!

Did you manually set the driver for the Epson up, or have you waited for the "new printer found" message? Chances are the box still thinks that Epson hasn't been installed yet.

Yes manually the epson is working fine. But the found new hardware still comes up at boot .
Could it be the old printer Lexmark was connected via usb, could it be a usb port problem?
It wants to install a printer when there isen't evan one connected.

Listen: You need to remove your manually installed Epson driver, then reboot and let this "found new printer" thing turn up, and then feed the Epson driver into THIS procedure. Never do the "Add new printer" procedure for printers that are detected by plug&play. Always let the pnp auto-install procedure do its job, just point it to your driver set when prompted.
