PENNFIELD, Canada - Reports of a plane crash in eastern Canada on Wednesday morning appear to be unfounded, as military and aviation officials in the United States and Canada said they have received no such news.
The Federal Aviation Administration and Canada's air traffic control agency told NBC News that it has received no reports of a plane crash in the area. A Royal Canadian Mounted Police official said no wreckage has yet been found.
The first report on local radio, cited by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, said a four-engineered C130 Hercules military transport plane had crashed into the waters in flames.
But a spokesman for Canada's military told CTV Television that none of its Hercules planes were missing, and there were also reports that it might have been a small craft.
A U.S. military official at the North American Aerospace Defense Command told NBC News that it "heard the initial reports" of a plane crash off the Atlantic coast of Canada, but that it had no additional information.
