Without warning, out of the mist came this message everytime I reboot my PC running Win98SE: "missing file, C:WINDOWS\homepage.inf". This began either after I installed Norton SystemWorks 2002 and removed a virus or after I began setting up a home network (not completed yet). I searched the MS Knowledgebase and it recommended running the Windows Internet Explorer Repair Tool. I ran this and the result was that the tool could not successfully repair the problem. I then downloaded IE 6 and installed same; the problem persists. Can anyone help solve this problem? Thanks!

I just ran Find on my Win98SE computer and found the said file in the C:\windows\system folder. Try copying the file off another machine and dropping it into either the Windows or Windows\System folder. Or, use Find to determine if it is already on your machine. Whichever folder it is in, drop it into the other.

Happypuppy, Thanks for the tip. I rand Find and did find that file in the C:\windows\system folder. Properties show that it was created 12/11/01 at 8:06 AM and modified 8/17/01 at 6:40 PM. Seems odd it would be created after it was modified. Could that be the problem? Thanks.

I found the problem! Somehow, the homepage.inf file was in the c:\windows\system folder, but not in the c:\windows folder. I moved it to the windows folder and the error message disappeared. Thanks for the help. :)
