I have a 2500+ barton, and I had a Epox 8rda+. A few weeks ago I was frantically trying to avoid spending big $ to upgrade my system, so i was trying to extend the effective lifetime of the board/cpu combo. I tried to pull a VDD mod, upping the voltage to the NB, a process that included soldering a potentiometer onto a volt reg on the board. Long story short, it never turned on again. In any case, I got a new board, a epox (im a fan) 8rda3+. In almost all respects, this is a 100% better board. It lets you change the VDD in the bios, has active cooling on the NB, passive on the SB, and heatsinks on the Volt regs all over the board. in anycase, this board overclocks incredibly. Like I said, I have a 2500+barton, that I always run at 200 fsb. It is the newer, locked mult version.

In my first ruin through the bios, I noticed that the multiplier option want greyed out. I was like what the fuck? ceptical, i set it to 11.5 from 11, lowered the fsb to 166 (i dont think it will do 200x11.5, but mabe) and it booted fine. I can even get it too do 12. WHAT THE FUCK? the other 2 boards I had never allowed this. why is this board making my barton unlocked???!!! Im happy, but i want to know why its unlocked. if someone could pleaze speculate.....

thanks

You might want to edit certain 4 letter words that begin with "f" and end with "uck" out. =)

Aside from that, are you absolutely positive it's a locked processor? What week is it? Is it a Mobile processor?

Also, are you sure it is using the multiplier you set in the bios? I know I can change my multiplier to whatever I want, but it still runs at the locked 11.0 setting.

i got the proc from newegg in like feb, new from newegg, I called and asked around, they told me that there was absolutly no chance of getting an unlocked proc. I am sure that it is unlocked. first in bios, it says, 166x11.5=19xx. also, nvidia system util says the same. so does windows. I have never heard of thermal paste unlocking the cpu. Would it be the metal content? connecting the points on the tp of the proc? I had a 1400 tbird, and i succssfull did the pencil trick (connecting the points on the surface of the proc to unlock) hoow could the board be unlocking the proc??? That makes no sence. sorry about the launguage.

Have you checked it out using something like cpu-z to be sure?
