Alright, I just upgraded my router's firmware so that I can lock out MAC addresses from accessing my network, internet, and the router settings page. More specifically, you have to register the card in order to get an IP from the router. What prompted this was when I went through the logs the other day - two days specifically - I noticed that the router had handed out an IP to a local host whose host name had not been reported to the router, ie it was blank in the logs. So I grew suspicious because I knew no one had plugged into the network physcially. We do have some wireless connections, however, but as far as I know no one has introduced a new NIC into the network.
The 2000 Server I have on the network is running DNS, but everytime I query nslookup from a 2000 box it proceeds to query the DNS servers of the ISP, so I can't find out the name of the computer that way -- at least until I fix the DNS problem. But as I'm a 2000 Server newb I don't know what's wrong with it, let alone how to fix it. Have you guys got any idea how I can find out if someone's hacked my WEP security and brought in a wireless NIC?
