mysterious chip ... is it ram?

hey wassup, concerning rdram memory, I've noticed that they have to be installed in pairs and next to each single ram , there is a chip next to it that looks like a ram chip but isn't labeled. WHat is that chip for? BTW, I own a Sony.

It's called a Continuity Module, or C-RIMM. It's a blank to complete the circuit, as all RIMM slots must be filled.
