Mysteries of Noah's Flood

So, I'm watching this program on TLC called Mysteries of Noah's Flood. They are speculating that a shape on Mount Ararat in Turkey is Noah's Ark. Now I've read about Noah's Ark and the great flood, but seriously. Do they actually think that so much water covered the planet that the ark beached itself on a mountain. Does this mean that Waterworld is actually going to happen?

It makes me wonder about the original conversation concerning this.

"That kind of looks like a boat in the mountains."
"That's silly, what would a boat be doing in the mountains?"
"It must be Noah's boat and that's where he landed."
"You're right, there can't be any other explanation."

I had a high school teacher that told us that there was not enough water in the oceans, atmosphere, and ice caps to cover the whole world.

You are correct, I know that can't be true. Could someone please tell the people that made the program that it can't be true. None of them seem to think it's strange that the boat is so high up.

Umm, sure there is, but it would require shifts in land mass.

I think a great flood is feasible, many civilizations document one...

Well some people think that, but many Bible scholars believe the story isn't to be taken so literally to mean a great flood enveloped the entire globe, but more along the lines of a great flood of epic proportions that enveloped a limited but historically important region of the world.

Houses have been deposited in strange places during some major flooding just in the past few years. Marine fossils are routinely dug out of what are today mountains. I guess I just don't see what's so implausible about a boat being deposited in the mountains, if indeed a cataclysmic flooding event happened. Maybe it wasn't rains, but a big earthquake caused a gargantuan tsunami.

Marine fossils are found in the mountains because the mountains were under water millions of years ago. Then, the tectonic plates overlapped eachother creating the mountains. This process took millions, not thousands, of years.

Mount Ararat reaches a height of 16,940 feet. I do not know the height of the area where they thought the boat was located but it seems fairly close to the top. That would have to be some tsunami.

True, but nor have we had any cataclysmic flooding events on the scale of what is implied in the Bible.

I realize that, but entire ancient cities have 'disappeared' without a trace, cities we know or have strong reason to believe existed. A couple of them have been found in recent years...under the sea. Still others have been uncovered under 30 feet of earth. Mount Ararat may be 16,940 feet today, that doesn't mean its peak was 16,940 feet high 5,000 years ago...or whenever this thing was supposed to go down.

the thought is that an area got flooded, not the whole world. Remember the floods in the plains states a few years ago? That kinda flood. I thought it was an interesting show.

Many things can be true If u think about them. Little fact: The alps used to be covered by an ocean

land masses move and many civilizations have reports of great floods. Who says that the flood has covered the whole earth...
