Need a shot of early-'90s nostalgia? The classic PC adventure game Myst is getting a TV adaptation. The game's creators at Cyan Worlds have signed a deal with Legendary TV and Digital Media (a branch of the film production company) and the show will apparently bring a tie-in game to go along with it, according to Deadline. The companion game sounds very much like it'd be appearing on tablets, considering Legendary cites a statistic that 70 percent of slate owners use their device while watching TV "at least several times" per week, something Cyan sees as a way to expand its interactive narrative. Variety points out that Legendary has yet to decide whether the show will be a traditional broadcast program or if it'll be a digital project (its movie based on the Dead Rising series is a Crackle exclusive).

This won't be the production house's first dalliance with gaming either: it's been working on movies based on Mass Effect and Warcraft for awhile. It's worth noting that neither of those have actually seen the light of day yet despite being in the works for what seems like forever -- when the Myst project could actually surface is any Stranger's guess.

Ugh, this sounds almost as bad as the Battleship or Tetris movies.

I don't think it's going to happen. They have been trying to make a Myst movie for ~6 years and nothing came of it.

It's a shame, because Myst really does have the potential to be a killer mini series, along the lines of Sherlock's 3-episode-per-season format.

I can see something like this being a Netflix Original. Not sure I'd watch it though. Myst wasn't exactly riveting. Unless they're going for something like Lost.

This sounds stupid if you've only played the game and haven't read the books. I have all three Myst books (signed by Rand Miller and gang!) and the stories would make an excellent movie (or even TV series) if done right. A family member of mine works there so I'll have to give a call and find out some background on it (if they can talk about it).

Riven was better though. :)

I still consider Riven to be Myst... The Myst universe is quite huge. Honestly, I've been wishing for a new Myst game for years, but I know it wouldn't be viable in today's game market.

I'm picturing the show involving showing a picture on the screen for 15 minutes, then one of the main characters comes along and touches something, then the whole screen changes to something else.
