Since I have no clue whatsoever about video cards, allow me to analyze the discussion.
For what it's worth, this statement, in the OP started it:
I guess people are so caught up in the hype that they aren't thinking clearly or they're just rabid fanboys that drool over anything nVidia.
At that point, you've said "if you dare to oppose my statement, you are not thinking clearly, or you are a rabid fanboy" - a pre-emptive strike against any meaningful discussion of what you believe is a valid point. I would consider this statement to be nothing other than flame-bait.
Note: my above considerations come with absolutely no clue what the heck you're talking about in regard to the video cards.
Imagine this as the first post in a thread:
"For measuring the kentonius effect, the Muttataco 78G456 outperforms the cornholio 811G when GHTX effects are considered. Yet the Cornholio is $150 more. Anyone who thinks the Cornholio is better is either not thinking rationally, or is a butt-headed cornholio fanboy."
Can you see how that's baiting someone who disagrees with your opinion to start a fight, rather than to simply provide evidence to the contrary? By opposing the OP, one becomes a "butt-headed cornholio fanboy", or in the case of the thread that you started, a "rabid fanboy."
And then, when the first post in your thread says " Yes, we needed another thread on the exact same topic the other 1000 are on" rather than explain why you felt it was necessary, you simply said "Yes, yes we did." While Rage187's response was obvious sarcasm, saying that in fact, "it isn't necessary to have another thread on this topic that's already being discussed ad nauseum," you make no attempt to show there is a reason for having another thread (the obligation was on you.) From reading forum issues, my impression is that the video forum is filled with many fanboys from both sides. Your response in this case makes me think the thread is for that express purpose as well.
Seems to me you just confused yourself there buddy.
Why not just "seems to me you just confused yourself"? I agree with gsellis. Sure, sometimes using the term "buddy" isn't derogatory. But, when used at the conclusion of a statement, its use in such instances is generally considered offensive. I'm a teacher. Suppose a student gets a question wrong in class. Which of these two statements do you think would get me in trouble: "I think you confused yourself," or "I think you confused yourself there buddy."
To be fair to both sides, while I agree that it seems 5150Joker's entire thread was nothing more than fanboism, BFG10K was the first to lose his cool and resort to the name calling. Given that the thread was absolutely useless (from what I could gather based on posts of other people), BFG10K should have simply just left the thread, than continuing to argue. Or, better yet, if he continued to argue, he should simply have not resorted to do so while also putting down the OP. If you truly think the OP is 10 years old, why are you wasting your time?
