Myoplex (protein powder packets) question

About 2.5 years ago I bought about ten cases of Myoplex. (The packets of powder variety, not the ready-to-drink kind.) Anyway I stored them in our cellar freezer, we ended up moving and ultimately I kinda forgot about them until now. I called the number on the packet and asked the rep if they expire. After waiting on hold, he came back and obviously reading from something, he told me they expire after two years. He could not answer if they expire due to freshness/safety concerns, or they expire because the law says they must expire after a set amount of time and they're actually ok to eat.

My questions are;

1) Does sealed packet protein powder Myoplex *really* expire and become unsafe to eat?
2) Are food supplement companies required by law to put an expiration date on all products even though perhaps they don't ever expire? (i.e. pasta sauce in a glass container expires, but it's ok to eat indefinitely.)

I opened a packet and it looks and smells fine. I'm asking for help here because I really don't want to throw this stuff out if I don't need to, and I don't want to be a guinea pig and test one only to get sick. :frown:

Any help would be appreciated, thanks! :D

If its expired. Usually they say with supplements within 90-120 days its still good, but the product loses its effectiveness. With protein I believe, I am not sure, but I believe protein could go racid. I wouldn't drink old protein. If its within a month or so maybe, but like 90 days or more, no way I am drinking it.

They were in a freezer? I'd bet they are OK if they were frozen the entire time.

Yea, in the freezer from the time I brought them home and still in the freezer, although the powder itself is just very cold powder, but not frozen solid. (Still powder)

myoplex probably just wants you to buy another 10 cases.
i strongly doubt that you'd get sick.

Yeah, they should be OK. No chance they could go rancid in a freezer.

2.5 years is a long time. Even frozen food can go bad after being frozen too long. I really think you should not consume that stuff. That is just too long. I didn't catch that the first time. Don't drink that stuff, there is no need to end up sick or worse for drinking old protein.

2.5 years in a freezer is NOTHING so long as the container is airtight.

The only thing that can happen in a freezer is freezer burn (a drying out of the food). But that doesn't happen if the container is airtight.

These are factory sealed packages kept frozen. They'll be fine.
