In China, GTX 780 (non GHz) cost 3799-3999 yuan while Inno3D GTX 780 GHz will cost 3999 yuan.

This is the second, and last, time that you're going to be asked to cite 3rd party sources correctly.

But WAIT!!!!

How much power does it use? If it uses 1.357w more than the others, it's a no go for me.

I wonder if this is the start of the GHz wars. :D

780, 780 GHz, titan, 780 ti, 780 ti GHz
290, 290 GHz, 290x, 290x GHz

My main hope is that this will drive prices down, however correct me if I'm wrong, they will just raise the prices on this.

AMD really messed up this time around... This better not turn into the same situation as AMD vs. Intel, or else be ready for $1500 cards in two years.

I doubt that AMD will be able to cut the 290X's price anytime soon.

looks like a cool card, will it be sold in the states? Also, the benches are only at 1200p, should be 1440p or greater res imo. Though we already know that OCed 780s can do better than the stock 290x, so I guess this is not so much needed, with all the other reviews of other 780s at different clocks. Would like to see OC results primarily given the cooler.

Explain this further as I'd like to see the rationale (or lack thereof) behind this. AMD produced a chip that beat out all of nvidia's GPU's at a much lower cost, causing them to panic and slash prices across the board. So far nvidia's only hardware counter is to to overclock their current SKU's, and we haven't even seen the 290 or aftermarket 290X's yet.

That said, excellent cooler but overclocked SKU's are unimpressive. If the price in the U.S. is comparable, I think an extra $20-30 is worth it for the cooler alone.

I agree somewhat with you, MrK6, but IMO the only real comparison is overclocked vs overclocked, so it basically comes down to the hardware and software compatibility: which has better cooling/PCB components, and which OC software works with the card for which tweaks are available. (some parts don't support certain voltage adjustments or readings)

So, when comparing any two cards, I wouldn't say that overclocked SKUs are unimpressive in general, but rather stock clocks are fairly irrelevant for most high end parts, or parts in general for that matter. IMO

GTX 780 GHz is pretty much a winner at 1600p too.

Also regarding the bump in frequency. They are making more efficient GPUs now compared to the GTX 780, so they can make this move now.
GTX 780 GHz (Edition) is based on B1 revision of GK110-300 GPU. This is more efficient variant of A1 stepping, clocked at 1006/1046 MHz. The new GPU is said to provide better overclocking potential and, at the same time, lower power consumption.

Thats nice, now it comes down to what card has the bigger overclock potencial, also it will take a few good months untill we see how Mantle will fit in this situation, so now the competition is neck a neck, the 290x 4Gb with a 512bus might also give a edge over the 780 in the coming months so we will see, maybe Nvidia will launch Maxwell sooner, we will have to wait and see.

The 780 Ghz edition appears to be a pure marketing gimmick like what AMD did with the 7970 Ghz edition. These are just essentially factory OC'd cards. From what I read the B1 stepping has been live in the market for a little while now on some current 780's thus max OC's will not leap much above current levels. I fully expect with a decent cooler, the 290's will clock to similar levels as current 7970/780's. Realistically the 780 and 290's have about a year and change before 20nm parts likely start shipping anyway, so this current GPU battle should be short lived thus I am leaning towards a 780 just because I do not want to wait a month or two for custom coolers for the 290's to show up.

Speaking of Mantle, I doubt that even if is eventually well adopted, it will have little impact in the above mentioned time frame and it will be after that and the next generation cards when we will really reap the fruit.

I do think its a gimmick. A clever gimmick AMD started. It is how they topped the charts over the 680. With the 780 nvidia could do the exact same thing in return. I think it would be very interesting if this really plays out with several 780ghz options. It would be a well played return of the finger from the green team. Pretty much using an AMD tactic right back on AMD. Sleazy, yet i find it very interesting.... i must admit.

The second I heard about AMD camping out outside an Nvidia press event inviting them to join them in their press event, I knew this was going to be a dirty war.
GHz edition 780 seems to be a kick in the nuts to AMD. We'll see.

Oh man, another thread by OP that's false/misleading/fake, take your pick. Sadly, the gushing, gleeful fanboyism here is for naught. There is no 780 GHZ edition, it's just the name of a card, like a Lightning or Classified or HOF

GHz Edition may be the name of the Inno3D card but its not the sku - TPU
Lol, nvidia fanboys are really taking the 290X release hard. If there's this much crying and wringing of hands now, I can't imagine what the 290 + aftermarket solutions for both cards will do. Let me start my popcorn...

Warning issued for thread crapping.

Very curious that the 290X score in Tomb Raider at 1600p is smaller
that what Hardware.fr got at 2160p.....and it s not the only score
that is quite odd on this doctored list , for comparison you should look
at HFR for the same games :

Ah man, you found a random forum post as your "proof", LOL. I guess we are all a bunch of fanboys gushing

Nevermind that TPU article on their main page that makes your whole counter claim look rather silly: http://www.techpowerup.com/193560/nvidia-preparing-geforce-gtx-780-ghz-edition.html
TPU actual article said:
With AMD's Radeon R9 290X and the upcoming Radeon R9 290, both NVIDIA's GTX TITAN, and GTX 780 are disrupted at their price points. NVIDIA is fixing its GTX TITAN competitive woes with the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, but it's looking like the GTX 780, despite its price cut to $500, could face trouble from the cheaper Radeon R9 290. NVIDIA's more hands-on solution? Launch a new SKU, that's and backed by non-reference designs for the most part, which some of its add-in card (AIC) partners are referring to as "GeForce GTX 780 GHz Edition."

Simply put, the "GeForce GTX 780 GHz Edition" is your ordinary GTX 780 with increased clock speeds of 1006 MHz core, 1046 MHz GPU Boost, and an untouched 6.00 GHz memory. The card is based on a new stepping of the GK110 silicon, labeled "GK110-300-B1," compared to the original's "GK110-300-A1."
I think you should retract your statement as an actual article should override your random forum post. Considering that it is an article from none other than TPU itself, i do find the irony very amusing.

Thats 2 articles from 2 websites vs one random forum post. The forum post links to a TPU page as proof of their claims, hahaha. TPU is reporting the GTX 780 GHZ on their main page. It doesnt get much better than this. LOL

Don't know about the rumor leaker credibility/reliability, but it's much probable to be true. But 290X results in this test were real bad, an them were made in 1600p, an resolution where the radeon is stronger!
This test looks like PR to me.

Disgusting viral marketing with the hope that no one will notice the fraud...

How deseperate a certain firm must be to rely on such
tricks , but i guess that on this matter they have by
far the higher FPS , Fraudulent Public Scams...

The GHz edition is just the name of a card. It isn't a line of cards. Get over it. B1 stepping cards have already been in circulation, namely by EVGA. Where is their GHz SKU?

Oh, and it doesn't make a difference that the TPU article on their main page which makes my whole counter claim look rather silly is followed by a giant ?

It's just an overclocked card, which is cool, and the air cooler looks to be fabulous, but still, it's not a new SKU. Just sayin.

This has been a discussion of the OP and it's irrelevance to an actual GHz SKU, brought to you by me O:)

WOW, and here i thought baiting was above you MrK6, trouble is I dont really see many NV fans concerned about the 290x, in fact the quite the opposite really, they all seem quite happy as the 780 is now $50 less for an overall better product....Go figure.
