Hey,

I've my MyBook for about 2 years, and it now it won't turn on anymore. I think it's due to lightning (even though it was on a surge protector).

I've taken it apart, and want to see if I can buy a replacement controller for it, but haven't had any luck finding anything online. Does anyone know if it's even possible to buy these on their own somehow?

Thanks,

What you can do if the hard drives still work is but the same model in a store or online replace the new hard drives with yours' and boot it up see if it takes and if so copy the data off then either return it or keep it.

Assuming you are talking about a single-drive, USB, version of MyBook, it's not unheard of for the USB-to-SATA built-in controller to fail. Or the power supply.

I'd pull the drive and put it into a working PC, into another external housing, onto a SATA-to-USB converter cable, or onto a SATA-to-USB/eSATA docking station and see if it still talks. Those docking stations and/or converter cables come in really handy, so it'd be a good idea to have one anyway.
