I had recently bought z560s from dell. These speakers rock. But lately they have started to make a loud hissing noise and sometimes an extremely harssh noise. Its no load and harsh that I am afraid to even turn on the speakers. I dont know what to do next. Even when the speakers are not attached to soundcard they still make that sound. I am really feeling down because of this.

turn off and unplug the speakers... go to the back of each sattelite and the back of the woofer.. take off EACH wire, and put it back on.. essentially re-attach every connection.. one of them is coming lose probably

I did that many times now. I took off every piece of wire and put it back. It helps sometimes and sometimes iot dosent. So u think its a problem with the wire still?

do all of the speakers make the noise? or is the distortion only coming out of one of them?

I actually hadnt paid attention to this b4. But yes its coming only from on of the speakers. Its the left hand side fron speaker amd from the base speaker.

switch speakers then and see if the sound follows it or stays at that side.. then you can figure out if it's the speaker or that channel in the amp

well the weird thing is that if I take out all the wires and put them back in and if I do this multiples times the sound stops. But it agains comes back later on.

hmm... i would guess its probably a wire problem..

but.. could be other stuff- is there anything around the speakers that could be causing interference or distortion (any electrical stuff i guess)

are all the connections right tight

did you try unplugging the speakers completely from the outlet, letting them sit for a while and then plugging them back in

plug them into a different outlet (dunno why.. sounds like it could be fun though)

hmmm wow some really goo suggestions from u guys. Let me do what u say. I am gonna take out everything and keep it that was for a while beforfe I plug them back in. The base speakers makes such a hauge noise that I cant leave it on for more than a fgew seconds time. Its just too harsh and loud. But I think its probably a wire problem too. I dunno whether or not I should avail of the warranty. They are covered under 2 yr warranty by logitech.

yeah.. make sure the speakers are away from other stuff... my cell phone makes them click and crack like a mofo.. maybe that one speaker is near something else

i've never worked with these speakers before-- so i'm not sure how they're set up.
but if you can switch wires with something else, or just use some new speaker wire i'd try taht.. make sure the connections are really tight, and that none of bare part of the wire is touching anything metal, esp not the other wires or anything.... double check all those connections.

well they are near my computer and the left speaker is next to my keyboard which is cordless. But I had this setup for nearly 2 months and never had any problem until last week. And when I unhook everything and put it back sometimes it stops the sound without shifting the position of the speakers. Do u think I should move the speakers far off from the computer? if so how far?

um.. try a few feet.. like 3-4 maybe.. i'm not sure how long your wires are. obviously the further away, the less chance for interference.

moment I touch the volume knob immediately there is the harsh sound. Its really confusing. The stupid sound comes up for all kinds of reason. SOmetimes it when I move the wires a bit. SOmetimes its occurs even if I havent touched anything. I cant seem to narrow the problem down to any on thing. The largest sound comes from the central speakers and I cant change that wire since they come from the Sound card.

Darn I just moved it as far away as the wires permit me to. The sound still comes from the left speakers and the central base speaker.

hmm.. now swap that left sateite with one of the other ones.. narrow it down to a unit/wire/or amp

sorry I forgot to mention this. I swapped the speakers. So that would probably mean that the problem is not with the speakers or the wire right?

I actaully called up logitech and they asked me to contact dell first and try to get a replacement. But that would mean shipping this really heavy speakers to dell. And I dont have a car nor the money to pay like 20-30 bucks for shipping this heaby speakers. DOes anyone know if dell compensates for shipping these speakers? Probably not I would guess.

If you get loud noises when you touch the volume knob, then chances are you have dirt in the pots. Try spraying some electronic contact cleaner in there.
