Ok, here is the dilemma

I have a brand new system i just made and my Turtle Beach Sound Card doesn't seem to like my Yamaha TSS-1 5.1Surround Sound System. For some reason, i can't get the 5.1surround sound (6 speaker) mode to work. I have to select the Digital 4.1 out for the speakers to work, but if i do that, it doesn't utilize all my speakers.

So what is the problem? I have the coaxial cable from my speaker system plugged into the VERSA JACK in the sound card...

Anybody know a solution to this problem?

The digital coax out of the SC only works for all speakers if you have a 5.1 source (Dolby Digital or DTS) like playing a DVD. For regular games and music, it will revert back to PCm or stereo only (two channel). The 4.1 digital out mode works if you have a special two-channel coax cable (much like what Creative Labs has for their Live! 5.1 and Audigy and some Cambridge speakers) and a speaker system that accepts them. Otherwise, you are stuck with regular stereo when using regular coax cable and regular speakers. The only way for you to get 4.1 sound out of your Yamaha speakers ( and I have the same exact set-up on one of my PC's, Yamaha TSS-1 and SC:)) is to run two analog cables from the front/rear channel outputs of your sound card into the 4-channel ananlog inputs of the TSS-1.

Actually, its an awesome system. If you are listening to music via the digital coax connection, just enable dolby pro-logic in the Yammy. You get music from all speakers although it won't be discreet channels. However, if you want to play games and want to experience EAX/A3D, you have to use the 4 channel ananlog input.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

So you are telling me that i have absolutley no way of getting this speaker to work for my system? Unless i buy a new sound card right? IE: SB AUDIGY or Hercules XP or????

Man, feels like a waste of $$$.. Been trying to get this system to work for the longest time.

I want 5.1, not 4.1 surround sound. I just feel like this system is a waste because the center channel isn't being used for 4.1 surround sound, other than being used for dolby pro logic for music. Ugh...

So really, nothing else i can do to make it work? Reviews at Amazon.com for this speaker system said that for PC, there isn't much you can do about it...

Thanks again.

I did not say that, it will work if you use the analog inputs but not the digital inputs. The analog cables are even included with the speakers so you don't even have to buy them. So when you play games, just shift over to the 4 channel analog inputs and when you listen to music, just go back to the digital input and activate Pro-logic decoding on the receiver ( to get music from all speakers). Its pretty easy, all it takes is just a few buttons to press on the receiver.

Buying a new sound card won't help at all unless you buy a motherboard with nforce chipset. Its built-in sound can encode ordinary two channel stereo and output it as 5.1 dolby digital. Another is to buy another speaker system such as one of the Cambridge speakers that accept the special digital coax cable.

So RANDUM, how is your setup like?

So you use this speaker system for your computer, correct? And i take it you only use the analog cables because that is what sound cards can only decode? or do you use the coaxial/optical cable?

I use both digital (coax) and 4 channel analog inputs. For DVD playback and music listening, I use the digital connection and for gaming, I use the 4 channel. You can toggle between the two by pressing the 'input' button right on top (digital, 4-channel, 2-channel). For music playback, just use press the 'mode' button and go to pro-logic. on DVD playback, it will go to either Dolby Digital or DTS depending on what sound format you choose on the DVD player.

This is on my 'back-up' PC. On my main rig, I have a full-blown home theater setup handling the sound (Denon receiver, Energy speakers):).

WayneTeK, what is so difficult about what RanDum72 is saying? He told you how it works. It sounds like it works just fine and a lot better than some other setups that require moving cables to get optimal sound for different things.

I know it works... But the ultimate question is... Does it work with Digital DTS?? I do get sound... except i don't get FULL SURROUND sound, other than Dolby Pro Logic... =)

And of course surround sound works, but using only the ANALOG cables... The analog cables only give you 4.1 surround sound... two front and two back.. not center.

Make sure the wiring is correct for the SPDIF out. Link.
When using a stereo miniplug to dual RCA cable, use only the red RCA connector.

My Adapter

The adpater Turtle Beach REcommends

Ok, here is one more dilemma.. sorry for the long unecessary post guys...

Anyways, the adapter i use is a female 2 male adapter, really short... the adapter Turtle Beach Recommends is a Y-Cable..

What i did with mine is that i used the coaxial cable turtle beach provided and plugged the female to male adapter into it and plugged that into the VERSA Jack..

Does this make a difference? Could this be a reason why i'm not getting surround sound??? Is there even a difference between the Y-Cable and the adpater i bought??

Thanks.
