Okay, so I took my copy of XP Pro Corporate and installed it, and had a couple problems. I have a Diamond Monster Sound Vortex2, Aureal 8830 based sound card. XP hates this sound card. Sure, it has drivers for it, but getting it to work? AHHAAHAHaha What a joke. Nothing worked. Not changing PCI slots, un/installing drivers, new drivers, nothing. Checked the MS HCL, and it's not verified.
So I put in the SB Live!128 ... it worked more, but gave out peircing, high pitched screeching sounds. Turns out that to fix any and all SB Live issues, turn *ON* the 15-16M memory hole in your BIOS. Made mine work like a charm.
The default Windows XP video drivers did not like my GeForce 256 DDR. Went and downloaded the most recent drivers from the Nvidia website, installed them, no go. Pulled the card, swapped in an ATI Rage 128, uninstalled it, reinstalled the GeForce, pointed to the new drivers and it works. Looking for that 60hz refresh rate thing right now though.
Just an fyi,
