My XBOX doesn't work with my home theater system

I wasn't sure where to post this since it isn't a computer question. I have this TV, and it works with my home theater when I am just watching tv, but when I try to use my XBOX, sound will only come out of the tv speakers and not the home theater system. Does anyone know what might be causing this, or do you think that is just the way the tv is made? Any help would be great.

You've gotta hook up the audio cables through your HT receiver, not your TV.

you need to buy that XBOX HDTV pack and use an optical toslink cable to your reciever
Only if he wants to use the Component cable inputs on his TV.

Do you have anything hooked from the XBOX into the receiver for the audio?

I have this going into the tv, and this going out of the tv into the home theater system.

So your tv has audio outputs? Are you changing your HT receiver to the channel where you hooked up the audio inputs from your TV?

Yeah. Because it works when I'm watching cable tv but not when I'm using the XBOX.

Monster cable? Ooof.

Anyway...as KLin asked, are you changing the input source on your HT receiver?

Edit: n/m that.

What if you hook the XBOX audio outputs to the HT directly?

I haven't tried that yet, but I had a Philips HDTV about a month ago (traded it in because geometry was really bad) with the same setup, and it worked.

Edit: had spelled haven't havn't.

that won't work he should be hearing both his TV and stereo at the same time like he does while watching TV.

plug your Xbox into your receiver's "auxillery" input. Your cable TV probably goes through your reciever (or your VCR) before getting to your TV in the first place, so your TV is likely not sending audio back to your home theater, rather your home theater is sending hte cable TV audio to your TV.

Otherwise give us a full breakdown of all cables inputs/outputs/components/etc.

Then just plug the audio cables from your XBOX into your receiver and then out to your TV.

why not just connect the audio cables from your xbox to the surround sound (receiver). I run all my sound and video through my receiver. Gotta love video switching.
