my X1950 overheating at 55 celcius ??

Not sure what is going on. When I run TF2 (the only game I play that really stresses my video card), after a few minutes I start seeing green static all around the screen and then it crashes back to desktop with the ATI VPU recovery error.

It runs at about 40 celcius on idle and reaches about 55~ when it crashes?

Is this too hot?

EDIT: I have tried reinstalling latest drivers

Im guessing something else is wrong with the card. 55 is well within "normal" temps for the x1950.

My x1950 Pro routinely maintains ~91C during prolonged gaming and is stable. (unless the new cat 8.4 report the temps incorrectly)

Could be a memory issue?
Does the heatsink cover the RAM or not?
You could try underclocking the mem/setting up a fan to blow over the card and see if that makes any difference. Otherwise could be a hardware issue.

I'm still very confused. This is starting to happen the more and more often. The card rarely gets past 50 celcius.. I've spent hours searching google for help with no luck

Are there any settings I could turn off? AA? V-sync?

That's not hot at all. Do you have anything OC'd? Games patched correctly, or any recent updates that may have caused problems?

my old Sapphire x1950 pro AGP regularly sees temps of 60+c when gaming and never misses a beat.... your card could possibly be about to die..

It could also be a driver issue. Do you have problems in other games? Have you tried an older driver?
