My X1900XT and Accelero X2

These are my short thoughts and experiences with the Accelero X2 installed on my ASUS EAX1900XT.

Both Coolers temperatures were measured using ATI Tool and fan speeds were set at 100% for both of the cards. Temperatures are taken from ATI Tool, from 3 indicated temperature readings; GPU Temp/Temperature of voltage regulators/temperaturse of temp.chip. Idle was measured from desktop, just ATI Tool running, and load was taken while running ATI Tool artifact scanning for several minutes (6-10), when the load temperatures were stabilized.

At 690/800 Stock Cooler Idled at 49/59/47 (GPU/volt.reg/temp.chp), and load temperatures were: 75/79/60.

With same 690/800 Accelero Idles at 47/59/43 and loads at 76/83/54.

temperatures didn't fall, and the card seems as stable as id did with stock cooling at high overclocks (690/800) but is silent at 100% fan speed. I don't now is that kind of what I expected or am I little dissapointed. For me it seems that it cools almost as well as Stock cooler at 100% fan speed, but does that without noise. Though I expected the GPU temp to be bit lower.

I currently have Antec P180 case and 4 (3 in the upper chamber and 1 in the lower) 120mm fans to handle the case cooling. GPU temperatures seem to be only 1 degrees higher, but chipset runs 4 degrees higher (41 vs 45, ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe).

What would be the best way to verify that the videocard overclock is stable? Running ATI Tool Artifact scanning? at clocks set to 690/800 I runned it ok for over 5 minutes, and I stressed it with 2 hour 3DMark06 looping and by playing BF2 for 3 hours. no crashes yet, but does it sound enough?
 
Those numbers sound about right. Typically the Accelero X2 at 100% is equal or slightly better than the stock fan at 100% (and of course dramatically quieter).

Oh yeah, using AS5 instead of the default goop on the Accelero might help a little bit, but at this point if you've already got the thing mounted it will probably be too much trouble to take it off again. Apparently the memory pads are quite sticky.
 
I had a slight improvement going from the stock fan to the x2 on my x1900xtx. But, there was no way I could stand the sound coming from that stock fan at 100%. I can't even hear the X2 at 100% - and to me, this is the real advantage of the x2.

That is true, the cooling is same as stock fan at 100%, but the stock fan was never this quiet, even at lowest speed (there was always that small, quiet and low "rattling" noise, or how would you describe it..) I had to check into the case to make sure that the X2 was spinning. I can't hear it over the case fans and the difference between the Accelero at dynamic or 100% fan speed is unnoticable.

QFT. You can run at 100% fan speed and it is dead silent. 100% fan speed with the stock cooler makes my ears bleed.
 
You won't gain much lower temps if at all, but you will gain silence 🙂

Mine is slightly cooler than the stock temps, since i always left the stock cooler at defaults.

 
I'm still on the fence on replacing my X1800XT fan with an Accelero X2. The first reason is that I don't want to spend extra money on it even though the stock cooler is loud, and the second reason is that the Arctic Cooling should have kept their older silencer design 🙁
 
It voids the warrenty but as long as YOU don't damage the card, I wouldn't hesitate to RMA if it failed due to a reason beyond your control.
 
SVC has them for $19.99 right now with coupon, I'd say that would be worth it...PM me for coupon code if you want.

Also there's a combo deal with the AC Freezer 64 Pro, $34.98 for both. You just have to add both to your cart for that.

How could you possibly ever know whether you swapping out the fan had an effect or not on the card? One slight wrong bump, or a slight static discharge can hurt the card, yet you'd have no idea.

I believe that's the whole purpose for the theory of voiding the warranty.

How could you possibly ever know whether you swapping out the fan had an effect or not on the card? One slight wrong bump, or a slight static discharge can hurt the card, yet you'd have no idea.

Overall I have to say that the Accelero has been a great choice. at the moment i'm idling around 45-47, games max out at high 60's and max temperatures while artifact scanning seem to be set at low 70's. and all without noise at all.

With a static discharge, well....you would know it if you shocked your card. One slight wrong bump? Video cards aren't that fragile. I've rebuilt my system 5-6 times now and I've never screwed up a video card installing aftermarket cooling, bent CPU pins, or had anything fail due to aftermarket cooling being used on it. Hence my stance on the warrenty issue.

It seems like all we get is a quiet heatsink.
My temps didn't drop @ all either.

Obviously not 0dB. You can, however, assume that he means he can't hear it above any other noise producers.
 
just got my accelero installed

on automatic fan control it got a degree warmer during a 3dmark run (77.9 v. 76.5).

on automatic it idles about 5 degrees cooler (57 v. 52). at 100% via atitool it idles 8 degrees cooler (49).

environ temps it's a degree higher (60 v. 61)

at 100% fan it got to 76.3 on 3dmark


i'll retest in a couple of days when, presumably, the thermal goop has cured a bit more.

That is what i mean, lot more quiet than before.
 
If you are doing the install then use the AS5.

The Accelero is simple to install and the better thermal compound will lower temps a bit over stock.

If you stay stock then use the AS5 as well and lower temps that way. The noise of the stock fan is ridiculous. No need to live with it there are better solutions out there
