The new HBO series has my WWII fervor back in high gear. So for no other reason that that, here are some pics!

US helmet, East-German helmet (post-war, so what cut me some slack) Red folder contains signed memoirs of a US soldier who 'liberated' the above German helmet. He was a member of the 1st ID and survived D-Day.

What are the items with the German Normandy helmet and the French helmet?

I know one is a pineapple grenade, what is the ammo and bag?

And that is a mighty fine collection, I am envious

Ammo is a bunch of spent 30.06 shells (M1 Garand/BAR rounds)

The bag on the right is the bag that the gas mask came in, and the knapsack in the back is just some generic Army knapsack from WWII.
 
Very nice !! Curious how much they go for. Can they be aquired through normal auction/merchandise channels ?

Now if this were a tank collection thread, I would seriously mark out.

To answer your question (and Barfo's seriously), I got most of my helmets off of Ebay. There is actually a great selection of them on Ebay. I bought a lot of them quite a few years ago, and I started checking recently and prices have gone up a LOT. authentic german helmets in decent shape sell for a good buck.

I got a few as gifts from some different vets I know as well.

After I pick up the last helmet I want (Japanese helmet) I am going to start collecting WWII firearms. I need to figure out a classy way to display them, though.

Looking FWD to that thread in the future !!

Mosil Nagent, Garand, Luger (watching the history of the Luger on History-I right now), K98 Mauser .... so much history and stories that these guns could tell.

I'm a WWII nut with no aspirations of collecting other than my 1/72 scale WWII tanks. 🙂

Should have started that earlier. Milsurps were damn cheap 10 years or so ago when the Eastern Bloc started to unload their arsenals. I think a lot of it has started drying up now, especially the cheap 8 mm ammunition. 🙁

I've had an example of sorts of all the major rifles except for the Japanese rifles. The Japanese rifles are not very accessible as shooters. But Mosin Nagant, Mauser K98ks, M1 Garands and Lee Enfields are all nice rifles. My favorites are the Mausers and M1.

10 years ago I was 15, kinda hard to purchase firearms at that age. Thats why I stuck to helmets and other memorabelia. 🙁

I've got a couple mausers, an m1, a 303 enfield. Had a mosin but sold it.
