I am without a 3d accelerator.

My voodoo3 died.

Why did my voodoo3 die, you ask?

I don't know for sure, most likely it's telling me "Ok, man, I've had enough of this 'Gimme 60+ fps in Quake 3' doodoo, screw YOU!"

I've tried it in different pci slots and the motherboard no longer detects it.

I have a friend who has an old P3 and I asked him to try it (well, actually I threatened to kick his rear-end if he didn't but I think he could understand my panic and took it lightly) and the same thing happened. Beeeeep, beepbeep.

I dread that sound more than anything in the world because it means that I either have no video card in there, or the one I have in there doesn't work.

I am currently on a 1 meg PCI card, it does 640x480x32bpp, 800x600x16bpp, and 1024x768x8bpp. Don't know what the refresh rates are because all it tells me is Adapter default and Optimal in windows. From what I can tell from having looked at it for half an hour straight is that it's pretty flickeriffic.

When the heck is dad going to hurry up and get that darn Geforce2?!

I like that phrase has a certain quality to it! Think I mite say that more often when I get a chance! But that is a very big step forward, or another excuse, to get a GF2! MX or GTS BTW?

I'm hoping for a GTS Pro 64 mb, but after looking at that thread that was posted about the Register's article on Radeon beating the Geforce2 at nVidia's own test in image quality is kind of making me hesitate...

For some reason us Brits like the GF2 better... Maybe becasue there are sooo many comapanies making the card so we have choice! And they are pretty well priced most of them, especially the MX ones!

Funny thing is... My Voodoo3 3000 just died last week also... Call them up and get an RMA number. It has a limited lifetime warranty. I sent mine this week and they told me they will send me a replacement in about 7 - 10 days. It's a good thing it was on my secondary computer... hehehe... my main rig has a Geforce2 GTS... But I know how you feel...

lol @ nortexoid and borealiss!!! About that key chain thing... If you KNOW that it is dead dead, then get a pair of sharp pliers or something else, and cut out the chipset, remember to leave abit of the PCB round it so you can drill at hole through it and at a keychain! Oh and sand down the edges, cause a PCB which has not been sanded can casue splinters! I made one out of an old 486 Chip out of an old IBM mobo which some one just chucked out.
