" A person's fingertips to fingertips wingspan reach is usually very close if not identical to their height. "

On TV they said Michael Phelps who is 6'4" has 6'7" reach which is advantageous for swimmer.

So I measured my wingspan and I'm barely above 5'8" (without shoes) but my reach is exactly 6'.

So, what's your height/wingspan?

6'3', 6'6 wingspan

For most all people your wingspan is going to be slightly longer than your height.

I must be weird.

6'0" height. 6' wingspan.

My shoulders are pretty wide in relationship to my waist. I can never find off the rack shirts to fit me. either they fit in the shoulders and are too long in the arms or I find something close to my shoulders and arms but the tails tuck in too much cloth.

Dunno, but my lats are so big I can glide like a damn flying squirrel and that is a fact.

Very close if not identical is an overstatement. It should be somewhat close. When it is over a foot longer, it's a big deal. Phelps isn't a freak because of his wingspan. He's double jointed in a lot of joints and has big feet. His wingspan is not unusually large. Elton Brand has a 7'5" wingspan but he's only 6'8". THAT is a major advantage.

I don't have a tape measure to confirm (using 12" floor tiles and the wall to measure).

I'm 6'4" and it appears my wingspan is around 6'7" as well....maybe a little shorter, maybe a little longer.

I've always thought I should have been a swimmer. I'm tall (6'3.5"), I've got a pretty decent wingspan and I'm double jointed in the same ways as phelps, or at least that's what my doctor says.

The only thing I'm lacking is the muscle and the ability to swim well/quickly. (I'm not a bad swimmer, just not competitive by any stretch of the imagination)
