i just got the Acer v5-571 over bf sale. its great! very fast and working good.

BUT, after i let the laptop rests by closing the lid, it has a mind of its own!
it automatically open applications by itself! as soon as i open the lid, i see tons of apps opened (i closed all apps when i closed the lid)! i see news, picture folder, messaging, calendar......i swear i didnt touch any keys when i closed the lid. this "feature" happens every time i open the lid.

is this a feature of windows 8 and how do i disable it???

Draw a pentagram on the floor with salt then place the possessed laptop in the center, finally purchase and install one of these:

Its been reliably proven to remove demonic spirits from windows 8 laptops.

Or just pour holy water over it then take it back to the shop.

i know what the problem is now!
when i close the lid, for whatever reason, the touchpad is being interfered..... so the mouse jumps all over the place. i found out when when laptop was connected to ext display with the lid closed.

now....how to fix this? any idea?

Sounds like a bad design. Return it?

Go to your Acer's power management choices and establish what happens when you close the lid.

Go to your Acer's power management choices and establish what happens when you close the lid.

when i close the lid these are the options:
- sleep
- hibernate
- do nothing

i chose "do nothing" this allows me to use the laptop on the ext display via usb kb + mouse. however, the cursor are jumping all over the place! n i cant control it. i did update the driver for the Elan touchpad. that didnt help.

my only choice is to manually kill the touchpad sensor, luckily its a kb short cut. then i can close the lid without the cursor jumping all over.....musta been some freaky interference from the display and trackpad sensor. very weird!

In the properties of the touch pad, do you have the option to disable it when an external pointing device is installed? I do on my Synaptics under the "Device Settings" tab of the mouse properties window, but i don't know about Elan.
