I have a SB Audigy card and Winamp version 2.80. Periodically, my music will skip and I know it is a result of Winamp. How can I stop it from skipping?

I'll have to second Winamp 3.... haven't had it skip on me at all with my Audigy in XP since I've installed it.... used to have the problem with the occasional skipping in 2.80 myself.

Don't get Winamp3, its slow, bloated and shouldn't even be considered out of Beta status yet.

Its quite easy to fix in Winamp v2.x Change the output plugin to WaveOut instead of the default DirectSound :D This will stop the skipping problem altogether.

Winamp v2.8x and higher default to the DirectSound plugin, its still is quite buggy (always has been) and has problems with certain soundcards.

Thanks stevewm. I think that solved the problem. I have another quick question for you. What should I set the Buffer Length at or should I just leave it at the default which is 2000 ms? Thanks

What, IYO, makes WA3 bloated? The added features that make it more user friendly? Or are you speaking of the deleteable AOL files? AOL is an awesome player. Don't be afraid to change. And, while it may be slower than before, it is still very quick.

all i have noticed is that it takes a few more seconds to load... i load up my ski its set on autoplay and then all i see is a little boomerang in the corner that has my buttons on it.. and i can select the playlist by cliking the little p.... takes up much less space and works better for me... haveing multiple playlists loaded is definatly worth it. I eman thinger seems kinda retarded to me but the skin i use doesn show any of that garbage... its that easy.

Multiple Playlists make Winamp 3 sooo worth it.

I could do without much of the bloat though.

Glad to hear it fixed your problem. I knew it would as I had the same problem as well :D

Just leave all the plug-in's settings as their defaults.

It all comes down to personal taste:

Winamp v2.x takes less than a second to load on my machine. x3.x takes 5+ for some reason.

Quite a few configuration options have been removed.

I don't like programmers that think they need to skin the ENTIRE application!! I cannot figure out why they decided that Winamp 3 needed its Configuration dialog skinned. That was totally uneeded.

Media library is useless, interface looks and feels unfinished (as does the entire program)

Lots of plug-ins I use do not function with it. Skins as well (yes I know it can accept v2 skins and plugins, but most of them I tried still do not work)

It crashed 4 times in the half hour I was messing around with it for no apparent reason. The last time Winamp v2 crashed was several versions ago, somewhere around v2.0

The "J" jump-to feature is gone! WHY!?!?!?!?!?!?! Nullsoft WHY?!?!

I just don't need or want any of the extra features included. Espcially the Video player will barely functions anyways!

Luckily development will continue on the v2.x series. Nullsoft has already said 3 and 2 are completely different products.
