Every time i try to shutdown my pc it wont it restarts, how can i fix this without havinf to format i don't wanna lose any data!

Hi,
I'm assuming that you are referring to the rig in your profile, right? I'm also assuming you mean that your system restarts instead of shutting down, correct? Well, hmmm, has it ever worked? Is this a new install? Or, did you add some hardware or software. This problem is not common. It basically means your shutdown command has been altered. This implies a virus to me, but none that I've ever heard of. A little more info would help narrow it down. For now, do a virus scan and get back to us.

YES

Correct

Did the virus scan with NAV, no virus found.

Chances are that it is NOT a virus.

-Go to WindowsUpdate to find and install the 2 shutdown patches.

-Try defragging your hard drive.

-Check if you've installed new hardware/software recently. Conflicts may cause this issue.

Ladi,
I ended up at the same link, but I've never had this problem before. I've had the shutdown hang, but never restart. I guess I got lucky with mine.

it could be a virus! I dealt with one just the other day for a customer at work! she clicked start/shutdown and any of the choices she picked just put her back on the desktop. Also she could not run Regedit... try running regedit from the run box on the start menu.. if it doesn't run.. its a virus.

of course there are patches for problems like that as well.. but thats just my experience with the problem.
