can anyone help me out? I just formatted my whole hard drive and for some reason my win98 takes forever to boot up. it just stays on the win98 screen for a long time and the hard drive does not go. Can anyone tell me why its taking so long? Thanks for your help.

Do you have a network card installed? If you do it might be looking for a server of some kind.
Might help us if you post your specs, Ie PCI/ISA cards installed.

completely agree with tony, more than likely its your network card looking for an ip or something. check configuration or pull the card and reboot and see what happens.

make sure your network settings are correct. it might be trying to find an IP without knowing where to look.

These problems are almost always network related. Double and triple check everything in your network settings. Remove any protcols that you don't need (check with your DSL service provider) and if that doesn't work, wipe out everthing in your network properties and try again.

Chances are the only things you need in your network properties are:

Client for Microsoft Networks;
Your network adaptor; and
TCP/IP for your network card.

You may need others if there are other PCs on your network and you are sharing the DSL connection.
