My wife sucks at gifts

Anyone else have this problem? I'm known in my family as an awesome gift-giver. I have a knack for coming up with unusual, suprising, and useful gifts that always make the receiver happy. Unfortunately, my wife is the complete opposite. She'll ask me what I want for Christmas, and every year I give about 10 suggestions. Then, I end up getting:

- clothes
- DVD's
- Some kind of metro cologne/manscaping kit

I'll ask her "what happened to my suggestions" and she'll always counter with "I don't know anything about that stuff you asked for."

I ask for music gear, computer gear, games...nothing too technical or expensive. Sometimes I'll even point things out in ads---still nothing. What the hell? It almost makes me feel like I'm not important enough for her to bother getting me a thoughtful gift! The fact that I even have to make suggestions is a bit insulting on it's own as I have some clearly defined passions and hobbys, yet I get the same stuff every year. I know what my wife likes and make mental notes during the year. She's always suprised when she gets something that comes from my heart, then I get a lousy DVD.

Seriously, a DVD is the worst gift. You watch the movie once, and then it sits on a shelf and ends up getting sold in a garage sale.

*prepares for more holiday disappointment*

Things I'm asking for this year:

etc...

Why the fuck does a grown adult ask for gifts?

I'm with you. I'm 30 and my mom still asks me for a list every year despite me saying for the past 10 years that I don't want/need anything. I make enough money to get whatever I need. She doesn't listen. I've resorted to asking for beer, assault rifles, grenade launchers, clothes hangers, and exotic animals.

My SO does the same thing. She means well, but I dunno. I sent her an email at least once a month with 'present hints' and my bday comes around and I get.. shirts. I'm not complaining, again, she means well.. But I've stopped emailing her suggestions because she doesn't take them.

Stance of dominance. I don't want anything. I've been saying that my whole life.
When the wife asked me what I wanted this year, I said "3-some," when she asked what her sister could get me this year I said "3-some." Somehow, I don't think I'm getting what I want... ;)

You don't want a woman to buy you stuff you want. They'll get the wrong one.

Ask for a shaver, they'll get you some crappy one.
Ask for tools, they'll get the wrong brand.
etc etc

Clothes sounds pretty good. Women are good at that.

i think you're a little self absorbed; why do you care so much what your wife gets you...it's a GIFT!

She doesn't owe you anything

Don't forget that he's married, though. It must suck knowing that his money is being spent on "gifts" that are so useless.

She would never see that either :( (I'm married, remember?)

what have you got to lose?

btw, my couch is full length, I can sleep on it fully extended (I am 5' 10") and it's deep enough so that I don't stick out on the side.

You are more than welcome to make use of it after you try my suggestion

I honestly think Christmas and maybe even my Birthday would be better if we all just stopped with the gifts and just drank a whole bunch on that day.

My wife is a lot better, but if you're into a hobby you're really picky and since marketing is designed to confuse all but the most informed consumers if you want something specific you'll probably end up disappointed if some one else buys it.

Aside from the fact that I just don't fucking need anything anymore (If I want it and can afford it, I just buy it. If I can't afford it, its to expensive for you to buy as a Christmas gift anyway!) I feel like Christmas just results in everyone buying eachother stuff that at best was what they kinda wanted and then having to risk insulting them returning it or putting it in a closet for 4 years before selling it at a yard sale.

I called off my birthday this year. For Christmas I'm excited, we picked names, so each adult only buys for one other adult. I hate getting useless crap.
