:(

OTOH, i have lost 8 lbs in 5 days. i can't complain about that.

Goal is to lose 20 by the end of next week (about 15 days) at which point i will gradually reintroduce Carbs into my diet.

just the smell of the cookies drives me crazy.

not really. i'm planning on starting a minimum amount of carbs, one serving of brown rice a day as my sole carb for 1 month after my first two weeks. after that i will start other carbs, but slowly and gradually. it's not really atkins, it's my own diet as i don't really eat meat and am mostly just eating vegetables at the moment.

Isn't that incredibly unhealthy to lose that much weight in such a short period of time, I've always been told that 1-2 lbs a week is the safest way to lose weight, and keep it off. Then again I've lost 10 lbs in 8 weeks, just off eating smarter, no Atkins or anything, and going to the gym and doing cario 5 times a week.... but whatever, to each their own.

You want to talk healthy? How healthy is being overweight?

Anyway if you can hold back my hat's off to you, I'd pull a homer in your situation ('mmmmmohohohoh cooookies' *droolingly scarfs up all cookies in sight while in a trance*), which is probably why I could stand to do some dieting myself ;)

20 pounds in two weeks? First, be aware that that isn't 20 pounds of fat--of your 8 pounds in a week I'd venture to guess the majority is water. Second, the minute you add measureable carbs back into your diet (brown rice will do the trick) you will gain back the water you just lost.

actually, this is the 3rd time for me doing the induction phase, i know how that sounds. but the first two times i did it, i didn't put the weight back on till my eating habits returned to my pre induction phase limits.

several other people have posted in various threads that "it's all water". so how exactly is it all water? wouldn't i urinate more or sweat more?? do you know how much water 8 lbs of water would be?? would seem to me that if i had lost "just water" as you say, those 8 lbs would have been noticeable somewhere.

besides, there is a definite difference in my waistline.

i love how everyone makes so many assumptions about someone elses body. i know how and what my body reacts too.

On the other hand, if the carbs you reintroduce are significantly less than before and of a healthier type, then you will gain the water weight back but will continue losing fat.

Can't you achieve gradual weight loss by eating less and burning more calories. I must have missed something in biology.

*Shrug* Could break it once for this and then continue on. Up to you if any adverse effects might be worth it.

Cultural & genetic differences make eating less more difficult for some and burning more calories more difficult for others. It's easy for skinny people to say this, I always grin when they try lifting weights to build muscle though ;)

Well it's not a matter of understanding your body. It's a matter of understanding carbohydrate metabolism. The way your body stores carbohydrates for short-term use is in the form of glycogen--formed mainly in the liver and skeletal muscle. Every gram of glycogen in your body holds 3 grams of water. When you stop eating carbohydrates, your glycogen stores become depleted and your body is unable to replenish them. End result is your body loses a lot of "stored up" water.

Water has a few different ways of exiting your body. Plus, if you weren't paying very close attention to your urine output, I'm not surprised you didn't notice.

I didn't mean to discourage you, but trying for a 20 pound weight loss in two weeks' time is an unhealthy view to take. Could you gain 20 pounds in two weeks? Doubtful even for the laziest glutton... why on earth would you then expect your body to be able to lose 20 pounds of fat that quickly? Even if it was possible it's not healthy.

"Slow and steady wins the race".

Good luck to you on your third try.

thanks

btw, i am very cognitive of my urine output because i've wondered if i have a kidney infection. i think it's because i drink a lot of fluids. i normally drink more than 12 to 13 12 oz glasses of fluids (much of it water) every day.
