I don't see the problem. If I had liked my maiden name, I would have kept it. I didn't, so I changed it (only like the new one marginally more, though.) If I had foreseen how hard it was for me to work into the new name, I wouldn't have changed it. It was several years before I felt like I had a last name at all, really. It was like losing a part of my identity. The new name just didn't feel like it was ME. And I refuse to go by MRS. That is my mother-in-law's name (and I don't particularly like her that well.) And I'm just plain offended by the old tradition of addressing women as "Mrs. John Smith". WTF? I'm not "John". How demeaning to women is that, to imply that once married, they're nothing more than their husband's appendage?

Well Bryophyte women in society and their rights have come a long way since stuff like this happened.

Women also get the shaft in the work place for the most part though still. They often get paid less then the guys and that is still pretty much the same in sports prize money. It has gotten better but still not 50/50. That would suck if it was the other way around and is unfair on women.

I've gotten a few wedding invitations where they address the cards "Mr and Mrs John Smith" over the past few years. I hate that. Why can't they write "John and Jane Smith"??

What is this, the 1950s? It shouldn't really matter. Some women just don't want to lose their familial identity.

You could both change your names, like mix the two or something. Though your mention of a foreign-sounding and hard to pronounce name makes me think that idea isn't so great.

The only time this will really matter is if you have kids. Who's last name do you want to give them? Both?

I had my wife read this topic and she agreed that a woman should change her last name to her husbands. That's one of the points to marriage. Two becoming one.

You are confusing my concern of being called whipped over you referring to 'all' as wussies.

I just don't equate her name and whether it ends like mine or not as important at all. It's not going to prove her love or dedication....

However on the pansie and wussie comment, I am willing to bet you'd recant that in person.

You sound like one of those people who told me I should have beat my ex wife into listening to me. Most had neither wife nor g/f....idiots.

I have to admit though you had me self-doubting my manlihood with such a stud-like posting until I saw what you whipped out and realized you are just a boy. *ruffle ruffle*, go outside and play.

While you get to sweat your nuts off at some kind of Super Burger or Kinkos or Best Buy, I get to nef on the clock, from my office, wearing what I want to work in. You probably cry at night because you can't get everything done you wish you could because you are tied to a job.

If you didn't realize that you are the one that needs to get out.

BTW I will think about your suck life next time I am 15 miles out on the ocean boating, or perhaps next week on Hutchinson Island right on the beach...
