My wife decided on(and bought)this camera while I was at work

Nice camera you can save some $ by going through Amazon. Since your post makes it sound like your wife went out at lunch and made a impulse buy when most people are deciding between Chipotle or Taco Bell you may not be worried about a few bucks.
 
You can check out the Canon HF200. Great reviews, same price range. It's a solid HD camera. But I'm not an expert on camcorders. All I know is Canons are great, and I'm looking to get one for the family.
 
I have the same camcorder OP minus the 16GB built in. I got a 16GB card instead. Why? My tv has a SD card slot so no messing about with cables and I can save on the camcorder battery 🙂

Enjoy it! It's a great little camera that auto everything and does decent enough videos at the price point!
