My whole screen gets filled with "atari" pixels!!!

Hello, recently while i'm playing games like half life 2 or UT2004, my screen would just randomly fill with pixels that look like an atari game when it crashes or sumthin close to that and eveything just locks up. I have no clue what the hell is going on, whether i'm overlcokcing my cpu too much or if its my gfx card. Can someone help me out here?
