Well, let me just lay down the ground work here. I DL the demo of Motor Storm the day I got my PS3 (about 3 months ago). It sat there on it's HDD until the game arrived on my doorstep for review on Friday. So, in short -I loved the demo and played the crap out of it. This is where I'm coming from.
So, I don't want to steal some of the thunder from the show (where I'm going to have a more in depth impression later this week), I'll kinda keep this sorta brief.
The game has a really solid, polished feel, through and through. From the opening scene to the streaking of gleaming tire tracks left in the fresh mud, to the dirt splashing in your face -it's evedent that Evolution put alot of time into making sure this game was a refined dirty experience. This is not to say that the game doesnt have it's hitches -they are there. But, over all the game is great. It's that simple. I played the game over the weekend (didnt beat it yet, so please keep this in mind), but I did get into the 3rd level of tickets.
It does seem a little simple going through tickets levels 1-2, but 3 it steps up a little more and it's a little more challenging. But, it's still a little simple IMO. The first two times I played the game, I hit 7th and 9th place basically because I was unfamiliar with the tracks. But, once riden a few times, it was first place -almost with ease.
The tracks are a refreshing design. Though few (7 I think?), are of solid and confident build. There are numerous ways to attack a track depending on your vehicle or, the preffered way. But you really can take any way you like. For instance, you're really not suppose to take a motorcycle through the muddy parts, but some times it just happens (oops, slipped off that edge!) and you're just left to deal with it. But when that happens, it's not a show stopper. Yes, you'll need more juice (IE:Burst!), to get the speed increase, but it's not over. You still have a chance.
This is one of the great things I love about the game. It just so versatile. It leaves the complicated stuff to other racers. I know I'm not really enlightening anyone who's played the demo here, but I just want to assure everyone that, so far, my experience is that the full retail does indeed build upon the demo ALOT.
The graphics (running at 720P) are smooth, bright, and just stunning. They've seemed to really have figured a way to optimize the frame rate. It's buttery smooth, except for one or twice where I basically causes a 12 car pile-up with my truck and you could deffinitly tell the PS3 was choking. 😛
I'm more of a Motor Storm/Burnout guy, than a Gran Turismo/Formula 1 guy -so keep this in mind.
Oh, one more thing. The game keeps asking me what language I want to play the game in on start-up. Every single time. What?
Why is the game still SO much louder than anything else when highlighted in the Media Bar. :-/
Also, the load times outside of the game can be a little tedeous. Once inside the game, everything is great. For example, if you need to restart the game, hitting "restart" gets you back to the starting line in 1-2 seconds. No loading. This is the way it should be -but once you choose your car in the menu.....zzZZZZZZZ.
Just thought I would share my thoughts so far on the game. It's fun!
If anyone has any quesitons, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer them.

**UPDATE 03/06/07**
I thought I would throw in one more update since today is release day.
I put several hours more into the game (maybe 3-4 hours) and by the middle-to-end of the 2nd ticket batch the difficulty really picks up. I love it when I'm driving and one of the big rigs is trying desperatly to slam my into the side of a cliff. I get such a kick out of it, because it doesnt feel cheap or forced in this game. It's should be expected here. It just actually feels totally appropriate and it just makes me laugh. Hrmp, maybe that was the Vodka though.
I'm finding that the more I get into the game, I missing more game mode options. I'd like it if there was a "quick play" options where I could select any track, condition (night, day, rain), and vehicle (that I've unlocked). Or what about an option to play heads-up against someone on the couch?
If I recall correctly, Phil Harrison recently stated that there would be updates and additions released for this game and R:FoM and I'm hoping that one of those updates will include more game modes for MS. If I had to put money on it, I would bet it would.
