is this a good setup

d-tek heatercore with fan shroud combo.

hydor pump 185gph

d-tek spirl poly-top cpu block

1/2" tubing probably

is that a good selection of the main components?
my case is chieftec dragon series.

depends. i have 2.4ghz(nonbarton though) using just an slk800with low rpm fan. 2.5 not unknown with faster fan. are you going to hit 3ghz or something to justify the water?

water is "worth it" mostly on a purely gadget neatness level.

dude i was talking about the components i'm choosing!!!

i don't care about the justifications for going to water. go look at overclock forums.

i was wondering if anyone has heard good things about the parts i want to get or if anyone has any setup recommendations??

dude, calm down, he was just trying to help.

now I would def. go with 1/2 tubing, make sure all your components are 1/2 also.

D-Tek is a pretty good company, not sure how well your block's gonna perform but I went with a sure bet, a Swifty. and your pump, I dunno, many people suggest something in the 300gph range. I just bought a Iwaki for pretty cheap in the FS forum, it's a $160 pump, got it for about $50. more flow, more cooling.

anyway, there aren't too many H2O freaks here, as you suggested, maybe you should post this over at OC.

good luck.

hey cheapgoose who do you think makes the best cpu water blocks?

i heard the name cascade mentioned before, are they any good?

also who makes good pumps? i heard that eheim 1250 is good

ok so far this is what i've made my mind up on getting:
1/2" tubing
d-tek heatercore w/ fan shroud assembly

well phil i was reading alot of reviews on the koolance exos and it seems to be very good. every review said that the performance is really good, but you can make better setups. but the exos doesn't come with a cpu block. so if you wanna get a good one its like another 50 bucks. 250 bucks for the exos is a little high.

after researching, it seems that for 200 bucks you can build your own system and probably have it perform better than the exos.

Your component list looks good. I would however( as cheapgoose suggested) go for a higher pressure pump. I run the Hydor L30(320 GPH) and it has been a great pump. I don't know what your budget is, but there are better blocks out there. From what I've read, the Whitewater block bests the Dtek block by as much as 5c, but it runs $65 for the AMD block and $70 for the P4 block. Just some things to think about...hope this helps...:)

What about to mention the White Water :D Best Block period !

I'd possibly go with the Danger Den Maze 3 or 4 setup and with their heatcore, should end up being cheaper all round.
If you want reliability then I suggest the Eheim brand of pumps, not cheap but certainly one of the best.
I guess it really bottles down to what you can afford :D

Heatcores are better at cooling than the BlackIce series of radiators and usually cheaper !

If you do go with the DangerDen Maze I would suggest getting the copper top version.

Check Here for a good run down of parts to get and why :D
